  • Installing Quinto v3.6 for 32-bit Windows

Quinto Black CT is one of the outstanding Winamp skins of recent times but its installer is not prepared for all installation scenarios.

If you want to install it for the latest Winamp on 32-bit Windows then Quinto's installer will pop up a message saying that

You must install Winamp 5.666 Build 3516 or newer before installing this skin!
Huh?! You have the latest version of Winamp. What's wrong with Quinto's installer?

It is how it tries to find Winamp. It assumes that the only possible location for Winamp is C:\Program Files (x86)\Winamp, which is an oversimplification to say the least.

On 32-bit systems, Winamp is installed into C:\Program Files\Winamp, not into C:\Program Files (x86)\Winamp.

This is what you can do. In File Explorer, open This PC, enter Local Disk (C:) and see if you have a "Program Files (x86)" folder there. If you do then enter it, if you don't, create it and then enter it. Inside the "Program Files (x86)" folder, create a Winamp subfolder, enter it and create a Skins folder.

    Copy winamp.exe from C:\Program Files\Winamp into C:\Program Files (x86)\Winamp.

You do not really need the real winamp.exe. It is in fact enough to create a 0-byte plain text file with the filename winamp.exe.

Now you can run the installer.

Strangely enough, Quinto will be installed into C:\Program Files\Winamp\Skins.

Unfortunately, many features of Quinto will be broken unless you have a copy of Quinto's SCRIPTS directory in C:\Program Files (x86)\Winamp\Skins\Quinto Black CT v3.6.

So create a Quinto Black CT v3.6 subdirectory in C:\Program Files (x86)\Winamp\Skins and copy Quinto's SCRIPTS folder into it.
