Button x position seems to have a maximum!

I'm a novice skinner who's only just found it's fun! However, after much playing around, I found that when I set the x parameter for a button greater than 300 it starts to disappear. I've created the attached skin to demonstrate my problem. If you change the button x to 300 it's all there. Change it to 330 and it's gone.
Can someone explain what I'm doing wrong please.

I also had a brain-wave this morning and split my buttons into two groups. I then found I could move the right-hand group all the way to the right-hand side of my background, but it's good to learn what is probably the more correct method.
A GUI interface editor would be great! I've been playing with SkinWamp which looked like it could have been something, eventually!

I've been learning Winamp's XML by dissecting other people's code and the few basic tutorials that are left on the Internet. Unfortunately an awful lot of the links I try are dead!
