  • Some non-square images as textures with a better quality

Already in Spring 2015 I had the idea to use textures from the subset "logo" in 1280x640 pixel. I made 17 basics with the font Aliens Encounters and 2 basics with the font Segoe Print. Recently I have made 1 more basic with the first font, because I wanted to have 20 basics and not 19.

For my other thread "My work in progress for sprite-friendly textures" I have used again Paint.NET and then IrfanView, but for the 4 images in 1024x1024 pixel I made also the .png-files with white on the black background with Paint.NET, while in the past I continued directly with IrfanView and with .jpg-files. I can give You the link to my other thread:
Posting general comments about the MilkDrop plug-in for Winamp here! If you have a bug report or troubleshooting question, a feature request, or want to share a preset you've made, please use that specific SUB-Forums instead of this one!

And when I saw again the content from the textures folder in the slideshow, suddenly I had realized: If I make the edited versions via IrfanView > Image > Effects > Edge Detection from a .png-file and not from a .jpg-file, then the quality becomes much better. The lines are more sharp, not so blurred. I have tested my official sprite-friendly textures so many times, and now I think, with blurred lines it would have looked worse than with the sharp lines.

As random textures in the 185 DLG Presets I can use also my old images (more than 400), and I have created 4 subsets of images, which I have in the textures folder, while I have the old "Merry Christmas Stuff" stored in C > Programs (x86) > Winamp > Plugins > Milkdrop2 > logos.

On 18th December I made the textures on the old way with the 20th basic, 1 day later I took my 20 basics and with Paint.NET I made 20 new .png-files with white on the black background, then I made the edge detection versions with IrfanView, now with the better quality. In December 2015 I had posted 2 older .jpg-files with the font Segoe Print in "The WINAMP FORUM'S CHRISTMAS TREE 2014" by Widdykats, although these are the low quality versions.

The older logos and gif-demos incl. many color edits are available as logostextures.zip and logosgifdemos.zip in:

You just need to scroll down. I have listed also the dates of my last updates. For the gif-demos I have used Photoscape.

I wanted to publish my .zip-folder with the 40 new textures before XMAS, but suddenly the cold had cought me, or directly the influenza itself, because I got also fever and problems with my circulation. This week I can do only the half of what I wanted to do, but I have taken my last power now, because You should get them. Fortunately today I was able to go to the meeting-point.

@ ravermeister , I think, that's something also for Your collection and archive. I am sure, You will like all my works.

Now I wish You a Happy New Year. I hope, You will like my ideas. Maybe You want to continue with them...

Thank you for your efforts, Sabine, as I am sure others, like myself, appreciate your work, especially under physical duress. Coincidentally, just this very morning, I noticed the onset of the body aches that are the precursor to the dreaded flu. However, I have not had the flu since 1995 and never take flu shots either. This is the SECRET:

    homeopathic flu remedy: Oscillococcinum
    manufactured by Boiron in France

The trick is to already have some of this remedy on-hand to take as soon as you feel the need arising...and I always keep a blister-pack of three doses in my backpack, which saved me today...although this is not Winamp-related, hopefully, it will be of use to some

Thanks again for sharing your textures, which is one of a few current topics of interest and further exploration within the amazing MilkDrop visualization plugin...and although perhaps not the appropriate thread to ask but I use Kodi (formerly XBMC) and one of my favorite music add-ons is SOMA FM (yep, South of Market Area in San Francisco...home to both SOMA FM internet radio and myself) and this music add-on has both MilkDrop and Milkdrop2 visualizations. However, I was surprised that even though I can configure the setting parameters in MilkDrop, the SOMA FM music add-on says the MilkDrop2 cannot be configured...I am supposing that is just the coder of the music add-on keeping his job a little easier and the music add-on more stabel, right?

Just one more random question, what have you heard is the ultimate display setup for immersing oneself in the bliss of MilkDrop? I have a pretty decent 7.1 Dolby DTS audio setup currently with a 32" 1080p amd a 27" 2550 x 1440 monitors but am considering getting a short-throw 1280 x 800 native resolution 800 lumens LED projector...any thoughts?

Lastly, I noticed you, like myself, are an ambient aficionado...do you have any recommendations of music sources, albums, internet radio, etc?

To answer my own question for you, I'd recommend SOMA FM and the actual ambient-related stations will be apparent but, from memory, "Deep Space One, Space Station SOMA, Drone Zone, Sonic Universe...and Groove Salad, their most popular "one-size-fits-all-weather-all-season" station...I hope you enjoy....oh, and here's a very obscure LP that is one of my all-time faves, The KLF "Chill Out"

      Hello jasonedwardkirk,

thank You for Your long reply.

I myself am a multi-artist, and I do also many photoworks, photoedits, artwork. I am not a good preset author, not a good skin author and especially not a plugin author.

Before I forget it, I want to leave my .txt-file with the download-links to my official packs. I myself use more than only my own works.

I myself will need a while, until I will go again outside into parks. The Spring would be very good. My Praktika Pentacon Luxmedia Camera is very disappointing. My Casio Exilim Camera is much better, but our older Medion Camera with the 4 heavy Mignon-Accus is still the best. Although I have at least my own "Railway Stones" / "Nebulas" (the dark edits), I want to have also my own stones at the water and some better surfaces of trees.

I myself have tried only Winamp, Real Player, Windows Media Player and some visualization websites in Firefox & Chrome. Since 2 years I didn't look anymore, if there would be new add-ons for the browsers, but it sounds very interesting what did You write.

I myself have a PC with a monitor in 1920x1200 pixel (do they still offer also replacement monitors with the same pixelsize some day, if it will become necessary?). And I have a notebook with a display in 1600x900 pixel. My PC (Windows Vista) is from 2009, my notebook (Windows 7) is from 2011. And it will be a nightmare for me, if both computers will die some day, because then I will be forced to buy a computer with Windows 10. Unfortunately I have no 7.1 Dolby DTS audio setup and no video-projector and also not enough place at home (I can hope only, that we will not be forced to move into a much smaller apartment some day). I have no experiences with using Milkdrop on a second monitor or with a video-projector. Maybe someone else has experiences with that and can answer Your question.

Maybe You will be interested for my public music-playlists, and here I have some of them:
I make ambient and electronic music, and I listen to many other music-styles, too. I love Electronic, Chillout, Ambient & Downtempo, Deep House, Dub Techno etc. very much. Also I am interested for nature-documentations, cats and parapsychology etc. But I make not only music, also artworks, lyrics and videos. I upload only music from my husband Frank and me and from our music-projects. As a listener I am managing many music-playlists, with short tracks and with podcasts & mixes. From December 2012 to April 2014 I had also broadcasted live on Mixlr. Some of my Music Video Images are also in Google+. They can be used as textures for the Milkdrop Visualizer of Winamp. 2048x2048 pixel and 2560x1600 pixel are not too large. JPG, PNG, DDS, TGA are supported file-formats for the textures. You can find me in many other platforms, and I have my biography in the most of them. Sabine Klare Aka Sternenmaschinebine Music, Art, Lyrics, Videos AMBIENT... AMBIENT music forever...

I suggest, You look also to my 12 favourited Other Channels.

And You can take also a look to the following threads, "A playlist with all Radio Streams and URLs under reconstruction" and "RMO & Streams Down?":
Have Shoutcast questions or suggestions? Want to help a fellow Shoutcaster or Listener? Come on in!

Something go south with your Shoutcast? Need tips to get up and streaming? Check in here with the experts.

although neralex had complained, that many URLs would be outdated. Again I apologize, that I had no possibility to update my long .m3u-playlist. But of course I know also SOMA FM, and I am sure, You will like the channels Chillkyway and MFSound.

I myself like it, if there are also some other people in the world with the same music-taste...
