  • Video and Image Capture

Are there ways to utilize video (recorded or live) with milkdrop?

How about adding still-capture images to milkdrop's textures while it is running?

I know it's possible to change image files while running, but only by overwriting file names already in the textures folder. Is there a way to add new image files without overwriting old files or restarting milkdrop so it can relearn what's new in the textures folder?

I have seen a few other things perhaps... There is Visikord. http://www.visikord.com/ Which isnt milkdrop per say. It is a mod a milkdrop one. I think you may have to pay for it. There is no Pixel shaders.

As for adding new textures while milkdrop is running... I am not sure what you mean. I am working on a way to update the .ini file for sprites with images already in the texture folder(the limit is 100 for sprites) Maybe f7 would work if you just want to see if it will update to recently added files.

If you are talking about a preset specific texture.. if you can overwrite path in the preset file in notepad i think it would work. You can set it to a hotkey so you press one button to change the image of a preset. You would have to restart the preset though. I am just guessing, i dont really use texture specific presets.

I am not sure how that designer visual guy did all that. I think you might have to get into video mixing/Editing. Maybe he has a guide =p

        Actually...

Wow! Thank you for the leads. You gave me plenty to look into.

I guess I wasn't being very clear concerning updating of textures, still capture and the like.

I developed a cheap-ass ghetto process for putting newly captured photos into milkdrop's texture folder while milkdrop kept running. The new files have to have the same names as the ones milkdrop found when it first compiled its list of the texture folder contents at start up. With a bunch of presets that randomly accessed the perpetually updating contents of the textures folder (with timed or manned cameras) there were many moments of sort-of nearly live videoish effects.
As an alternative to live video manipulation (for parties, seances, trances, dances, and live bands) I have been able to cheat my way into almost-live imaging with captured stills in this way. Was cool when people saw themselves morphed-out into the milkdrop world. It's a cheap-ass cheat, but it works - in a cheap-ass way.

Let me get this straight: You made an application that updated your images and scrolls through them to make a .gif like video?

I have thought about doing gif like images with sprites, except the .ini files is the only thing that needs to be updated for me.

I dont understand what you could mean by timed or manned cameras. Unless that is your source of the Still captures.. In which that would be awesome for a live party! Bravo! haha. If you are working with presets.. i'd recommend working with sprites instead. It is milkdrops hidden gem.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOvD59jrpB4 This is a simple, poorly timed video i made. It shows off what sprites can do though. This looks better than most sprites i have seen showcased. Sorry for the music. Im making more acceptabley scored sprite videos in the future.

Most examples i see make me not want to see sprites ever.
