same problem, (9 years later) except this case it says dx acceleration not available. this is a big clue telling me i need to adress dx, or my gfx drivers. i wouldnt have found that problem if this thread didnt reming me about chceking dxdiag. thanks.

I do not have nvidia card I have all ATI cards but here is something to try:
Go to start then Run and type dxdiag in run, let it load then go to display and disable the Direct3D Accelration, exit the dxdiag, then go in there again and enable it again, exit again, then try milkdrop. Let me know if it works. SM

brand new Dell inspiron 9300 laptop with Nvidea geforce go 6800 and 512 MB of memory i got farcry and HL2 on my syetem so my 3d graphics are fuckin good and ready to go, milkdrop is the only thing that wont work and im totally baffled, any help will be MUCH MUCH MUCH appreciated

alright, whenever i try to run milkdrop i get the error message
(GetDeviceCaps) and it says that my directx inizilization failed and i have no supported 3daccelerated graphics on my computer. this is clearly not the case, if anyone knows how to fix this pleeeeeeaaaaaaase help!!!
