  • Milkdrop illegal operation in win server 2003

I have searched and not found an answer to this, so please forgive me if there is one. I am running windows server 2003 enterprise fully patched with an ATI Radeon X800 GTO card. When I try to run MilkDrop 1.04d that came packaged with Winamp 5.21 it says "Plug-in executed illegal operation. Restart of winamp recommended(1)."

I have always been able to run MilkDrop in the past. This is a new machine and a new install of Winamp. The video card is also new. Has anyone had this problem and can help me with it? I have already configured the server for sound and video and I have been able to run R4, Advanced visualation studio, and Nullsoft tiny fullscreen just fine. Only Milkdrop fails and it always worked on server 2003 for me before. Any help?

I get the same error with XP SP2 32-bit on my AMD FX based comp. something happened and the settings happen to everything involved with MilkDrop (i even tried the milkdrop plugin i had installed with my old Winamp 2.91 backup installation). Mine has (2) at the end of the error message though. This plugin was working fine before i upgraded to 5.21

Yes, I was able to use all of Milkdrop prior to 5.21 with this very same setup. My machine is a dual boot and all versions of Milkdrop work just fine in the fully patched XP Pro SP2 OS that resides on a different partition. But I really hate having to boot into that partition just to use Milkdrop, so I rarely do. I am able to run R4 and Geiss just fine in 2003. But I like Milkdrop the best. (I really hate the message in R4 scrolling across my screen every minute that says it is not for commercial use.)

It's to do with Data Execution Prevention in XP/2003 and with processors that support it, you need to disable it for Milkdrop to work with it(the solution should be more publicised really).

Go to Control Panel, System, the Advanced tab, click 'Settings' under Performance and go to the Data Execution Prevention tab. Click 'Add...' and then browse and add winamp.exe. Milkdrop should then work

                  Thank You!!!

That worked, I can now enjoy Milkdrop again.

I was having the same problem on a new computer with Vista and couldn't figure out the solution.

                    Thanks a lot!

Unfortunately nowadays-windows doesn't let you add winamp as an exception.

                      So I can't run milkdrop.

Rather than questoin my reasons for wanting to do this, which is utterly unhelpful - I wish people could post how to actually exclude winamp.exe from DEP without having to shut down DEP altogether. I'm not seeing it anywhere on the internet.
