  • How can I save a random configuration?

So I've been derping around hitting "A" to get random configs, and I landed on one that I really like. However, when I hit "s" to save, and type in a new name, I get a "can't save file" error. Can this be fixed/am I doing something wrong? Thanks so much!

Windows won't let you as standard user save to c:\programs\...\milkdrop2\presets where milkdrop stores the presets per default.
So either run winamp as administrator, or, better, move your presets folder to a place where you have write access.

Aaah, thank you so much! Will do. Alas I lost the fun combo that I had but will keep in mind going forward...EDIT running as Admin fixed everything, thanks!

It works but it is generally not a good idea to run programs with admin rights. Winamp just comes from a time where everybody had unlimited acces to everything, so it was not a problem to put the presets folder in the program directory. But Microsoft had very good reasons to limit access and to separate program space from user space.
If winamp was redesigned, it would have to move the presets folder somewhere else into the user directory, and this is really what you should do, rather than giving it admin rights.

Thanks--so I can move it to anywhere on my drive or does it have to be in a specific subfolder? Also, how to move directory in Milkdrop? Thank you!

Just copy the \presets folder manually, preferrably to c:\users\yourname\documents\make_some_directory, or c:\users\public\...
Does not matter, you just need to have write access.

Then in milkdrop press L for load, manoeuver to this directory and load a preset. Milkdrop will remember the last location and automatically take you there the next time.

This is what WACUP (https://getwacup.com/community/index.php) does. WACUP is being actively developed to replace Winamp. It is based on Winamp v5.666.3516 and thus can run most of the Winamp skins and plug-ins. It currently does all that the core v5.666.3516 does and more.
