  • winamp 5's settings get reset

I haved used the alphas, betas and v5.0, 5.01, 5.02. What happens is that after a few days the setings get reset, AS IF the file "winamp.ini" were to be deleted !

Is it a "feature" of winamp 5 ?

If it is , it a quite irritating. I have to do all the settings again.

For now I keep a backup of the "winamp.ini" file.

No, it's definitely not a feature.
Alas, this is something I cannot reproduce.

Could be that Winamp does that after it has been restarted a certain number of times ?

I have seen this happening at more than one place...not only at my place.

        the problem continues...

        Currently using ver 5.03.
The OS etc don't matter, it happens on Win2k/WinXP/Win98

        Let me explain in detail...

After a few days it is as if the file "winamp.ini" has been deleted (that is the default settings appear; autscroll songname, new version check etc.)

        Very irritating !!!

I can reproduce something similar. It appears that some of the settings dont seem to be getting saved in my copy of winamp 5.03. For example, enabled hotkeys etc.
Also, my multimedia keys needed to have been bound to small exe's in 5.02 and lower, however in 5.03 it seems to pick them up. Not only does it pick them up though, if winamp is minimised and I press Play/Pause on the keyboard, the goddamn main window pops up. Annoying as all hell during games.
Also sometimes the media library etc doesnt want to be visible with global hotkeys. Ill go to back to 5.02 and see if I still ahve these problems.
I've also found that the <title> id3 tag doesnt actually display whats in the title, but rather it displays teh filename.

WinXP, AMD2600+, 512mb ram, 4 hdds ere btw.

              Hi

              Same here!
Winamp resets the ini file. I use to change the ini to "read only" but, after some time, the program changes bach the property of the ini file, "read-only" is unchecked and some settings are changed.
              Why?

              Regards

Could you all please confirm that this was a clean install of Winamp 5.03a
                without ANY extra 3rd-party plugins.

Please also try replacing gen_hotkeys.dll with this fixed version.

The only other suggestions I can make are to run:
Scandisk, Updated virus scan, Spybot Search & Destroy...

                  Hi
Yes, this began with a clean install of the winamp 5 (and now updates) without any 3rd-party plugins.
I replaced the gen_hotkeys.dll but winamp keep reseting the ini file.

I use Norton anti-virus, ad-aware, spy sweeper, tauscan and Outpost firewall on a XP aith SP1 and updates.

                  Any help?

                  Thanks in advance

                  Regards

Yep it was a clean install here too. Strange problem, i'll just stick to 5.02 for the time being, it seems more stable, and no bugs that really affect me (other than my fav skin asking me to make sure I want to run it on that version )

Weird! Alas, without physically examining your pc's, I'm baffled!
                      Anyone else got any ideas?
No-one on the dev/beta team can reproduce this.

What other processes are concurrently running?
I suspect some external app to blame :/

                      Note: v5.04 is due soon

I've had the same problem and found it was a Windows Washer plugin deleting the winamp.ini file. Apparently the file is or was used for storing recently played files. Perhaps other cleaning software deletes the winamp.ini for the same reason.

Yes, that would make perfect sense.
Cheers! Can't believe I didn't think of it before.
Some external clean-up utility deleting *.ini files... heh :/

If everyone else could please confirm the same,
then I guess I can lock this thread ?!

                            Hi

Yes, Windows Washer is the guilty

                            I made the experiment.

                            Thanks a lot
