  • network seek bogus after version 5.05

Seek in streaming mode stoped working after version 5.05 Before that, when seeking, winamp closed the connection and reissued a new one with HTTP-RANGE header. That doesn't happen any more, now moving the seek bar, the bar just goes back to where it was.
    Please fix that.

Sorry, we can't reproduce this :/

    Here's some examples:

http-seek works with all of those.

My streaming server was suffering from the same problem.
After I inserted "Accept-Ranges: bytes\r\n" into HTTP response headers,
      5.07 seeking is working now.

        Hello,

any of the preview links on allofmp3.com used to work before 5.05, but not anymore. Unfortunately this is the site I use most

Since it worked before, I hope nullsoft can make it work again.

Ah, now I can reproduce it :/

          allofmp3.com > Hawkwind - Space Bandits - 03 - Wings (24kbps preview)

Not sure if non-members of allofmp3.com can access that link, but yeah, the seekbar no longer works like it used to

Hmm... weird how it works for those links in my first post, but not this one

          [EDIT]
Ok, http-seek for allofmp3.com doesn't work with WiMP or any other player either - so maybe it's an allofmp3.com server configuration issue after all, heh.

            Er... no it doesn't.

"Accept-Ranges" doesn't fix the problem for me, I had that anyway.

Can anyone post ANY link where HTTP Range seek works with 5.07? I can't find a single one.

Btw, other user agents that use Range work (like FlashGet and GetRight).

Are using version 5.07? I assume yes, so what can be different between your winamp and mine?

I am using a clean install (no plugins and no settings changes)...

                Bah humbug :/

DJEGG, none of the links you sent in the 12-17-2004 post is a streaming one, they actually download an mp3 file. In steaming, the link you click returns a url which is the actual file link, no file is downloaded.
                  The problem does exist.

Not if you copy & paste the url's into Winamp's Open url box, or just drag the url's into the playlist or main window. The links are then just standard mp3 streams, and http-seek works perfectly ok with them - for me and just about everyone else.

[edit] I won't even comment on the post below, heh, apart from to say:
"for those of us who can't reproduce the problem, show us how to" :/ [/edit]

I changed to Winamp 2.95 and it works (and loads faster and uses 4 times less CPU). Btw, I tried Winamp 5.07 on 3 different systems, they all failed to seek. I suppose in the distant future wise sages will discover the secret of the riddle that is older Winamp = better.

Hmm, I'll try to go back to 2.95 then. Very very irritating. allofmp3 seeking does work with the older 5.0 versions, and allofmp3 tech. support recommends I use windows media player .

Is 2.95 safe, or does it have critical security bugs like 5.03?

                          All 2.9x versions have the in_mod, in_midi, in_cdda & .m3u handler buffer/stack overflow vulnerability flaws (as fixed in v5.03 to 5.08)

If it works for you with 5.05, then just keep 5.08 installed, then reinstall 5.05, but uncheck EVERYTHING in the installer options, so all you get from the 5.05 installation is winamp.exe and in_mp3.dll

I'm going to try the same myself, and will get back to you...

Like I said before, I can't get http-seek for allofmp3.com preview streams to work with WMP9 either, but those url's I posted above (when streamed) definitely work ok in 5.08 for me . . . so I'm honestly not sure what's going on at the moment... though there's probably more to saemaro's post than meets the eye.

ps. still no comment on ChardDeanAnders last post

Ok, I just reinstalled 5.05 to get the old winamp.exe and in_mp3.dll, backed up these two files, reinstalled 5.08 and put those two files back - and I can now use the seekbar with the allofmp3.com preview streams again - so yes, I can confirm that something is definitely broken.

                            Here's an example:
                            Hawkwind - Space Bandits - 03 - Wings

Not sure if you need to register/login to allofmp3.com for that stream to work or not

                            [Edit]
Confirmation that all you need from v5.05 is in_mp3.dll (winamp.exe v5.05 is not required), thus confirming that something broke in in_mp3.dll as from v5.06.

The same thing also happens to me when I use Notmad Explorer's Xstreamer to play back the music. I noticed also that it happened when I upgraded from 5.04 to 5.07 or so. And I figured it was just Winamp because WMP could seek fine still, and so could Winamp 2.91.
