Wireless sync deletes and re-syncs most existing files

Here's how I reproduce... wipe the music folder on my Android phone, and wireless sync songs with a rating higher than 3. Now change the ratings on a couple of tracks and try to re-sync. Winamp prompts that there are ~500 files already on the device which are not in the local media library - all files which were just synced, and if you look in the comparison pane, exactly match the files that are about to be synced. The only difference I notice between file copies synced to the device and copies in my media library is that the track numbers of files on my device are "1001", "1002", "1003"... instead of "1", "2", "3" or "1/13", "2/13", "3/13"... I don't know if that's related or not.

Also, I've verified that when the tracks first sync, the track numbers on the device look fine (1, 2, 3 etc...). But when I go to sync again at a later date, the track numbers on the device show up as 1001, 1002, 1003 etc... Again, don't know if this is related, but it's odd.

I've also verified for one such file (that Winamp wants to delete and re-copy with every sync) that the copy of the file on the device and the copy of the file on my computer are bit-for-bit identical- so the problem is clearly that Winamp is misreading the file on the device (rather than somehow corrupting the file during the previous sync).

i have the same problem, win7 64bit, latest winamp, htc desire froyo, latest winamp for android

also cover art disappears over time - i think related to the delete, resync thing.

Would this get more attention if it were in the Android forum? I'm surprised there's not more of a response from other users or developers, I know we're not the only ones with this problem judging by reviews in the app store and other posts around here.

Found out a little more... It appears that after syncing, Winamp on the phone spends a lot of time scanning the new files, and it's not until after it's been scanning for a while that this problem occurs (i.e. you can re-sync immediately after syncing for the first time, and it works fine- but if you wait an hour or two and re-sync it will want to delete and replace most of the songs on the phone).

Same here with Samsung Galaxy S running Android 2.2. Actually I don't think the problem is specific to using Winamp for Android - even before I installed that (when I was just using the standard Android music player), Winamp (on the PC) would still come up with hundreds of files that it thinks are already "on the device but not in the local media library" every time I synced.

Neither is it related specifically to wireless sync either IMO - I had the same problem when using the USB cable. Or rather I still have that problem, as I found out the hard way that wireless sync doesn't support the Galaxy S external SD card (see http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?p=275808).

Syncs for me take a very long time (45 mins - 1 hour typically) because (desktop) Winamp decides it needs to delete all these files, only to have to copy them back over again (in their original format) afterwards. I've tried tweaking all the potentially relevant settings I can find on the Winamp desktop application, to try to avoid the files' metadata being changed on the device. But to no avail...

I am having this same problem. Using Winamp 5.61 (x86) on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. My phone is an HTC Thunderbolt with Android 2.2, running Winamp app 1.0.3.

When I start the wifi sync with my phone, it first says "there are xxx files already on the device which are not in the local media library" - all files which were just synced. I select the option to delete the files from the device and continue the sync. However, the next time I sync, it gives the same message.

Maybe unrelated or not, but when I start the sync, it only syncs about 20 to 30 songs before the sync just stops for no known reason. The "transfers" panel under "devices", where it was originally showing 700 songs or so queued up to be transfered, is then empty. There's no error message that I can see. I can restart the sync, but I get the message described in paragraph 1 above, and Winamp deleted the songs from the device that it just synced, and the process starts over.

So I was unable to sync over wifi at all.

I tried the USB transfer, and it seems to work as advertised.

The same thing happens on my Sony Walkman - no android in sight. There are always a few songs that are in the "to sync" and "to delete" columns when they are obviously the same file.

(edit: actually that's on a wired sync of course, didn't read the title , just got here via google search!. Still an issue though )

Has anybody heard any info on this problem from anywhere? I posted under the tech support forum a few days ago and got zero response from anybody. Also, I've seen this problem posted about in other places on these fourms, and there's never any response about a potential solution, or even an acknowledgement that there is a problem. Very frustrating, would be at least nice to hear something back like "yes we know there is an issue and we're working on it".
