BUG: asian characters in Win7 popup

another frequent bug:

if you open winamp and leave it on for a while, and esp if you come back to it after your machine sleeps or what not, you often will get asian characters in the win7 pop up, as you see here in the pic:



it happens quite frequently.

btw, i still can't upload attachments to the forums most of the time. thats linked from mediafire.

that would point at an incompatible plug-in, in the one4nunz report, if doing a full one, it should show at the bottom ones which aren't unicode compatible i.e. ones most likely to cause that issue.

Unicode Taskbar Compatibility Listing


The plug-ins listed below show references to the SetWindowLongA(..) OS api. If this api is used to
subclass Winamp's main window, it can cause Winamp's display of unicode text in the taskbar to fail.
For a plug-in to be compatible it needs to use the unicode version of the api - SetWindowLongW(..).

Being listed here does not mean a plug-in will cause the issue as there are legitimate reasons for
a plug-in to be using SetWindowLongA(..) but it is a good indicator for people who know which ones
are compatible to route out plug-ins which are likely to be causing the issue. Only those plug-ins
which do not also show references to the SetWindowLongW(..) OS api have been included in this list.

If you do experience the issue then there is a way to fix the plug-in(s) if the original author is
no longer supporting or around to fix the plug-in(s) to use SetWindowLongW(..) for the subclassing

(dunno how i never got around to replying to this).

The problem is (is also flagged up in the 'Unicode Taskbar Compatibility Listing' section):

Other than seeing if there is an update, you'll need to install the unicode taskbar fixer and see if that resolves it (which it should).

that's because it's only reporting what Winamp gives back to it. there is a way to get a pre-done string with the full version, though the 0.00x versioning was never really envisioned in the version api Winamp has (which we cannot break).

i did briefly work on a patch to make it possible to get that but for it to work properly it then requires other people to change things in the build system so it's gone into my ignore pile.

I've always found most 3rd party devs to be responsive. The problem is getting in touch with them. Many times the contact info is out of date.
