  • No enqueuing when: dir - link to dir - subdir

    The bug:
    Winamp does not enqueue when
    the enqueued directory contains
    -link to other directory
    --and this contains subdirectory
    ----and this contains mp3 files.

    Steps to reproduce:
    - create a folder tree with the following structure

    .\AVERAGE\
    .\AVERAGE\CALM\
    .\AVERAGE\CALM\PIANO_AVRG\
    .\AVERAGE\CALM\PIANO_AVRG\Satie\
    with a file:
    .\AVERAGE\CALM\PIANO_AVRG\Satie\Satie_calm_piano_average.mp3

    .\BEST\
    .\BEST\CALM\
    .\BEST\CALM\PIANO_BEST\
    .\BEST\CALM\PIANO_BEST\Bach\
    with a file:
    .\BEST\CALM\PIANO_BEST\Bach\Bach_calm_piano_best.mp3

    .\SHORTCUTS\
    .\SHORTCUTS\CALM_PIANO\
Create shortcuts to the above directories PIANO_AVRG and PIANO_BEST:
    .\SHORTCUTS\CALM_PIANO\PIANO_AVRG - shortcut.lnk
    .\SHORTCUTS\CALM_PIANO\PIANO_BEST - shortcut.lnk

    - click with right mouse button on the folder .\SHORTCUTS\CALM_PIANO\
    - select "Enqueue in Winamp"
    - BUG: Nothing is enqueued.
    (should enqueue
    .\AVERAGE\CALM\PIANO_AVRG\Satie\Satie_calm_piano_average.mp3
    .\BEST\CALM\PIANO_BEST\Bach\Bach_calm_piano_best.mp3
    )

why do you have shortcuts mixed in with the audio files? why not store them in a separate folder?

(Shortcuts here are links to the folders, not to mp3 files.)

These shortcuts ARE stored in the separate folder (".\SHORTCUTS" tree) particularly ".\SHORTCUTS\CALM_PIANO\".

The advantage of the system is
      - by clicking to play ".\SHORTCUTS\CALM_PIANO\" it plays all calm piano in
      . \AVERAGE\CALM\PIANO_AVRG\ and
      . \BEST\CALM\PIANO_BEST\
      - by clicking BEST\CALM it plays only best calm
      - I can add new folder with BACH with shortcuts to Bach music in folders AVERAGE, BEST, CALM, PIANO or whatever I want
. - then by one click I can play all this
      - when adding the new file all is necessary to do is to choose the proper folder where to store the new file
. - no need to change any tags (and there are no tags for calm music, piano music, morning music, etc.)
. - no need to edit existing playlists

However, the mentioned bug prevents to do this.

Or, maybe I overlooked a better way how to do it.

        can you not do this:

        \root\music\all your music files

        and

        \root\shortcuts\all your shortcut files

b/c i am thinking that may workaround the issue. i'm not sure i understand how your shortcuts work, but the bug seems to be that they are mixed into your music folders.

          Hi marce1,

Interesting concept. Either a shortcut to a shortcut is not supported or maybe the 256
character path-name limit is being exceeded.

Have you tried it with an administrator account? If it works, then the user account may
not have permissions for all the folders and/or files involved.

i've a feeling (without checking the code) that shortcuts to shortcuts are purposefully not resolved as too many people kept having shortcuts to the same location which caused Winamp to crash (due to recursion).

I understand the need to appeal to the masses. Too bad. Proper shortcuts to shortcuts
              would be pretty cool.

While it may reduce support requests, trying to protect users from themselves is
ultimately futile, imo. Limiting features chasing this goal, keeps products from being
all they could be. But it is, what it is.
