  • BUG: winamp art fails on punctuation

    5.63 / Win7

this may or may not be a bug depending on ones technical definition, but imo for all practical purposes, its a bug.

anyway, normally winamp will use an art file, if the name of the art file matches exactly the album title tag name.

however, i have had it fail when an apostrophe was in the tag / filename. i use EAC to rip, and so i am thinking there is some kind of mismatch between the actual kind of apostrophe used in the tag vs in the filename, (a slightly different character, or maybe differences in actual char sets).

i'd imagine this could happen with any kind of punctuation, so i thought it was worth documenting.

this also might explain some of the android/art issues reported.

i think winamp should just ignore punctuation altogether re:artwork/tag matching, or if not that, then at least map character such to say "this [x], this [y], and this [z], are all the same for this purpose"

      One example on Discogs...
View credits, reviews, tracks and shop for the 2011 CD release of "I Remember (Translations Of Mørketid)" on Discogs.

Now I know, why I don't see the album art, although I've tagged all my files (many MP3s and less WMAs) very exactly (and I use also the exact file paths for the albums). It's the "ø" of "Mørketid"...
In "Album Covers" (under the media library tab) on the computer I miss 2 album arts, I've opened the folder and veryfied everything. There are no naming-mistakes, but there are some "." in the album-names, and I think, they can make problems, too...
But with the taggings I had many work on my ripped MP3s (from my Ambient & Deep House CDs) and I don't want to change too much on the downloaded MP3s from the Internet Archive...

It was very good to take the time for a stop-by in the Winamp Forums again (finally)...
