  • WinAmp 5.63 freezes on Windows shutdown

    Hi,

I’m experiencing very odd problem with WinAmp:
WinAmp 5.63 freezes on Windows shutdown with Modern skin enabled. Windows has been stopped from shutting down. The same issue is not occurring with the Classic skin.

Any clue what might be the problem?

    Best Regards!

    Hi MinchevM,

By default Windows will force the shutdown of any apps that ignore its shutdown notification after a delay. The forced shutdown can be disabled and/or the length of the delay can be changed. Is it possible this has been done on your computer? What version of the OS are you running?

Have you or anyone ran a tweaking utility, especially those that advertise improving Windows startup and shutdown performance?

Please also attach your List of Plugins log.

        Hi MinchevM,

The current version of Winamp is not fully compatible with Windows 8.

I have a feeling one of the developers will provide further info and/or request more info to help with the compatibility updates.

Thank you for posting this problem.

Winamp prevents Windows from shutdown or logoff

          hello all
i have the same problem here

Winamp 5.666 (3516) prevents Windows 8.1pro 32bit from shutdown or logoff and then freezes
          (previous versions of winamp too)
It doesnt matter if winamp is playing or just at idle.

          - clean install done - didnt solve it
          - new winamp compatibelity mode - didnt solve it
          - creating a new user account in 8.1 didn´t solve it
          - updated realtek audio driver - didn´t solve it
          - updated nvidia video driver - didn´t solve it
          - Windows safe mode start - didn´t solve it

but it didn´t happen with Win8.0 Enterprise (test edition from Microsoft)

          very annoying...

then you need to remember to close it first before shutting down Windows. things were done to try to improve what goes on but not knowing what you've installed or what connected devices Winamp might be trying to handle or anything else in the system it's high on impossible to diagnose the cause. as I'd altered things so against what I could test on 5.66x works a lot more reliably than it used to but as is all too often seen, Winamp behaves differently in different setups at times.

              Thanks for your quick response
i´ve tried windows safe start too - so windows was without specific drivers
              (updated in the previous post)

I often use a shutdown timer and it wasn´t able to shut down windows - since I found an option to "force" programs to close. Its a workaround now - but not an optimum way.

Not sure anymore but possibly winamp has this behaviour since the update from win8.0 to 8.1

edit: no connected devices in winamp

ps: good luck for you and the whole Winamp project... hope it will continue...
