  • Winamp v5.8 Build 3360 can't reproduce wav file

    Greetings,

I'm using DirectSound as output, and i already tried to include WAV in "in_dshow" and disable WAV in "in_wave" with no avail.
The file is a test for 7.1 surround, and i can play it in other players.

I also tried installing Winamp Essentials without success.

Anyone knows if there's a solution to this issue?

Have you enabled the "Allow surround sound ..." option in the Preferences - Playback - Playback tab?
Winamp v5.9.1.10029 - Quinto Black CT v3.6 skin
    Windows 11 Home 64-bit v22H2 desktop - Logitech Z906 5.1 speaker system

When u convert to ALAC or flac, does it work?

I converted in Audacity, but it seems DirectSound cannot play a surround sound (7.1) witch 8 channels.

I don't have the version 5.666, but i have uploaded the 7.1 wav file if anyone wishes to test it.

My version of Winamp (listed in my signature below) can not play the wav file provided. It does play in Audacity v2.4.2.

Thanks for the reply, i can play this wav in Audacity and in K-Lite Codec Pack, if i convert to a Stereo (mixing the channels in Audacity) i can play in Winamp, but it is not surround anymore.

I can play the wav surround if i change the output plugin to WASAPI, but sadly all the files are starting muted! So i always need to increase volume, even if i pause the music and hit the play button the volume goes to zero.

                  Guys i tested this plugin:

And it works! in the plugin's configuration, you need to set 2000ms in the buffer size and click on the "Client invalidate & Reload" button.

I was able to convert the the wav to a 7.1 channel flac using audiomuxer, unfortunately I was still getting DirectSound buffer errors. I tried downmixing it to a 5.1 flac and it played just fine. I think this is a out_ds.dll limitation in winamp on any surround greater than 5.1 channels as it plays just fine in MPC/K-lite as you mentioned above.

Even tried it in wacup but still a no go
Current Setup: Windows 10 Pro, Sound Blaster Z, Logitech Z-5500, Winamp v5.666.3516

                    Get wacup

The output plugin i have provided can play 7.1 (8 channels) surround files!
