    Maybe the mp3s that are causing your v5.9.2 to crash have structural errors that that version can't handle. The attachment is an app that can check for and fix several kinds of mp3 encoding errors. I have used it on over 6,000 mp3s in my collection (fixing several of them). Version 5.9.2.10042 plays all the mp3s in my collection without any issues.

    Make a copy of any that the app flags before letting it try to fix them.

    • Hi, Aminifu.
      I used EZ CD Audio Converter and re-encoded the files. Now all is working fine. Thanks for tip.

      • In Windows 7 I'm getting a crash when closing Winamp 5.9.2. Its not every time but still frequently. This is the error:

        Other than that this version does work good but for now I've reverted to 5.9.1 that doesn't have the problem.

        • Nullsoft Notification Area Control v2.49 [gen_tray.dll] is not working in windows 11!

          I am so surprised nobody mentioned this before?

            I don't know what else to say or do. Winamp doesn't generate a crash report that I can find.

            [EDIT/]
            Including gen_ff for you to look at in case you're right and it's getting corrupted somehow.
            This is still an issue for me. I tried to figure out what Winamp is doing just before the AV inside wcslen. So far it seems what Winamp is doing something inside ???MlUnskinWindow right after what looks like a reading and parsing of the selected skin's XML file with the last discernable valid string being/having-been parsed is "groupdef". More details in the attached WinDbg32 screenshot.

            The following is just a raw dump of my notepad during this session:

            • Hi thinktink,

              I'm really sorry you are having this issue. This modern skin and others I use work fine for me. I'm only playing mp3 files at this point. My configuration also includes seven 3rd party plug-ins, including your BogProg Embedded Art v1.3.3.20. Some features in some of these plug-ins don't work and may cause Winamp to crash if I try to use these incompatible features (which is expected at this point), but most work (including yours) 100% fine. Can you post an Info Tool report of your configuration? Or, I can pm you mine for comparison.

                DJ Egg is already aware of this issue I'm having. It only happens on my ASUS VivoBook without any 3rd party plugins installed, even my own. DJ Egg has already said he can't figure out why it's happening mostly because he can't replicate it. All I'm doing now is trying to provide more information in the hopes he can tell me exactly what Winamp is doing so that I can backtrace the source of the issue to something specific, like a bad driver or corrupted description entries in my system.

                • Winamp 5.9.2 is crashing on exit when ASIO plugin is installed.
                  Tested on both original Otachan version, and this recent fork

                  Was able to build only original Otachan 0.67 version to get pdb, but it didn't give much information about the source of the issue. In all cases it is

                  Not clear who is corrupting heap, but version 5.6.666 didn't have this issue. I've also tried to run Winamp under App Verifier with the basic settings, but it crashes immediately without producing any dumps.
                  Tried also build this one plugin for testing - https://github.com/WACUP/out_notsoasio, but it references some includes I don't know where to take from
                  code:
                  #include <loader/loader/paths.h>
                  #include <loader/loader/utils.h>
                  #include <loader/loader/ini.h>

                  Built out_asio and crash dump

                  • I'm browsing my MP3 files by double-clicking them in Windows File Explorer, having Winamp being the default media application for .mp3 files.

                    When I do this, e.g. by listening to an MP3 file for three seconds and then double-clicking another file in File Explorer, Winamp regularly crashes after playing the 5th to 10th file this way.

                    See here for a screencast depicting this issue: https://i.ibb.co/8jyMM8s/Winamp-crashes.gif

                    • The option to have Winamp play CDs is always unchecked. No matter how often I check this option, revisiting the corresponding Options page, this option is always unchecked.
