what helps that you have ripping and encoding settings when ripping and encoding support are not installed?

it simply should not be there.
I agree and hope, they will fix this for Winamp 5 Final.

Video, Media Libary and Global Hotkey Support, all is optional, why not Ripping/Burning?

At least it can be deselected in the Installer. {Sonic Ripping/Burning support, AAC Encoding, MP3 Encoding}. If these are deselected, it does not make sense for the dialog to show up. It fakes to do things, that it cannot in reality.

If wish that there would be a standard installer without WMA support, without AAC/Mp3 Encoding, without Ripping/Burning support AND WITHOUT THE PRO ENTRY in the prefernces {and without the cd ripping entry of course}.

I believe, Ripping/Burning is also included in gen_ml.dll, in_cdda.dll and of course in winamp.exe.

For an standard installer without Ripping/Burning and Pro entry, they must modify these files.

Let's don't loose our hope, and we will see, if there will be an standard installer without these stuff or not.

Yea, kinda like... a lite version! (sorry, couldnt stop myself)

It'll prolly be gone in 5.1 or something. Winamp 5 is basicly feature locked so the almost only code work they are doing is bugfixing. Better to get a rock solid final release out the door, then risk breaking something by removing that stuff.

nope. the entry is just hooked to the ML.
that is bad. Hook it to the SONIC BURNING/RIPPING Engine, that is selected or deselected in the installer. because people that deselect that, do not want ripping support and therefore do not want to see the entry. the current solution is bad, because it fakes that winamp can still rip and burn.

I think something's wrong with the uninstaller.
I did an uninstall of my rc10 so I could upgrade. It asked me if it should delete all files... I said no thinking that it would let me keep my library.

Strangely enough, the uninstaller deleted everything except for two folders...

                \AOD
                AolAod.exe.0.exe
                \Plugins
                \AVS
                AVS-Intro.avs
                mig-llama.avs
                winamp.avs
                gen_hotkeys.dll
                nsvdec_vp6.dll

As you can see, my library and playlist files are gone. I would have expected ALL plugins to be kept, not just two plugins and three visualizations.

Not worried about the library.. I have that backed up... but I thought this behaviour was not quite right.

Selecting "NO" from the uninstaller should LEAVE my plugins folder alone.

Running WinXP sp1 with Winamp 5.0rc10

Nope, the tab "Ripping" from CD-Ripping preferences is included in "in_cdda.dll"

But the whole CD ripping preferences are hooked up to the ML. If you delete in_cdda.dll the CD Ripping entry in preferences is still there.

If you delete the ML plugin, the entry is gone, regardless if in_cdda is installed or not. Just try it.

                      Sorry, I got you wrong.

I mean for an standard installer, they must also modify "in_cdda.dll" to remove Ripping complete.

Of course, to hide the CD-Ripping preferences they just must modify the "gen_ml.dll".

@Analogroaming The uninstaller is doing its job. If you pay attention and read the dialog boxes that come up, you will see that it asks you if you want to delet those folders. if you are upgrading and want to save all your plugins, and avs presets, then you would click NO, if you want to delete the whole thing then click yes.

They do not have to modifiy the in_cdda plugin. it is the same version number like the one in winamp 2.95. They added just some additional sonic support. I think there is not much more functionality there than the addition to the dialog. they could simply replace in_cdda with the version that shipped with 2.95. no need to modify it. I tried it, it works.

Well, Here is where I am confused. Instead of just dling winamp5, why dont you stick with 2.95, and if you want the modern skin support, try and install that.
