I've never heard of this one before with Winamp3. What skin are you using? Default? Classic? Another 3rd-party authored skin that could be causing this problem?
First, close the window. Then try switching skins and then reopening that window. Still grayed out?
Do you have any 3rd-party components installed? If so, try uninstalling/disabling them.
Are you able to make changes in Preferences, and then do those changes carry over to your next Winamp3 session? If not, close Winamp3. Browse to your Winamp3 main folder on your hard drive. Locate a file named studio.xnf and right-click on that file > Properties. Are the properties set to read-only? If so, UNcheck that and restart Winamp3.

btw... There is a Sticky thread at the very top of this forum that is entitled Winamp3 Is Dead, Upgrade To Winamp 5. I think it's very likely that you had never read it, based on the fact that you've posted here for help with Winamp3.
Partial quote from that Sticky thread...If you are having any problem with winamp3 whatsoever, we strongly recommend you upgrade to the Winamp 5 release candidate, it will most likely solve any problem you are having.
I recommend that you do what was suggested in the Sticky thread I linked to above for you... uninstall Winamp3 then go ahead and download Winamp 5.0. When you download Winamp 5.0, go ahead and download a current release candidate of Winamp 5.0 (until the final public release comes out, at which time you can upgrade). The LATEST release candidate of Winamp 5.0 is now available. This will "probably" be the last one offered for download in the forums until Winamp Final is officially publicly released.

DOH!!You already had Winamp 5.0
actually, i am indeed on winamp 5. is there a winamp 5 support forum?
* N0TE: Winamp 2 forums will be renamed simply to just Winamp forums very soon (to also include Winamp v5.0), as soon as Winamp 5.0 Final is offered as the official download at Winamp.com (as soon as Winamp3 is no longer offered for download and becomes an unsupported legacy product)

I think it's a windows issue though.
It may be a bad setting in winamp.ini. Use the advanced reply editor to attach a copy of it to a post. If you don't know where this configuration file is, use Koopa's Winamp Info Tool v4.2 (link below) to tell you. Probably a good idea to use the tool to generate an extended report of your configuration and attach it also.
