Gives you the option to replace the 5.08e versions of in_wm.dll, wmahelp.dll and in_dshow.dll with the versions from 5.08d

Winamp started as an mp3 player, and today that's still pretty much all it does.
I think he wants Winamp to make toasts and coffee or to be a download manager, or to rip cd's.... Wait Winamp already rips cd's!

This is outstanding... Some people say that Winamp v5.x is bloated and they miss old v2.x others say that Winamp v5.x is the same as old v2.x!
    Make up your minds!

    Is_Protected: true

I also sent it to a friend just to test, and he couldn't play it (it asked for the license)

    for your information, I'm running:

    Win XP PRO
    P4 3.0c (northwood)
    Asus P4P800E Deluxe
    2x 512mb Kingston DDR400 (in dual channel)
    Audigy 2 ZS

I have the latest DirectX (9.0c)

    Are you sure it's protected.

Main window > Press <Alt+3> or double click the title. Scroll down and you should see 'Is_Protected true/false'

    Hey everyone.

I've been a casual reader of these forums for quite a while, but I've decided to sign up because theres something that has me quite perplexed.

I am using winamp 5.08d and yet, i can still play the only WMA file i have (which also happens to be DRM protected)

I've checked just to make sure the individual plugins weren't updated and they are still at 2.03 for wma and 2.2.10 for directsound.

I also tested using a different output (in the form of the nullsoft disk writer) and it worked fine (all be it slower than uaual).

now, I'm by no means complaining, and I hope I'm not asking an anoying question thats been answered a million times before (i did look for something similar), but i was just wondering whats up.

My understanding was that, if i wanted to be able to play a DRM protected WMA file i would have to upgrade to 5.08e, so clearly this is wrong?

Yes... I take that as a personal affront, Egg.

Actually, Nullsoft (and now AOL) benefit from my using Winamp, because I could easily use another player and ignore them altogether. Winamp is free not as a favor, but because they need eyeballs.

so what if AOL effectively owns Winamp....funnily enough [the 2.x builds] were paid for by AOL and is why Winamp is free in the first place (remember it was shareware before 2.5).
What's changed since 2.5? AOL may have laid out some money, but they didn't pay for any development that I can see. Winamp started as an mp3 player, and today that's still pretty much all it does. Maybe Nullsoft played a big trick on them.

those bitching will only have themselves to blame in the end
I'll probably miss Shoutcast, since shoutcast gives me something (broadcasting) that I otherwise might not have. But Winamp? Winamp is a student project that never grew up.

To return to my initial thoughts (I didn't monitor this thread):

    - Maybe I agree that the waveout plugin shall still be bundled with winamp. But now it is so that it is the default plugin and YOU have to select the direct sound plugin as an "extra audio plugin" in the installer. A newbie wouldn't think that he is in need of such fancy extra plugins, so he will untick it and end up using the waveout plugin since the other one wasn't even installed.

    - I don't know how hard it could be to turn a plugin default setting from true to false, but in times of 3+ GHz machines there shouldn't be any need for the ultra fast "Fast Layer EQ" being turned on by default. Times change...

Can anyone verify the above? Google has only two mentions of musicstacker on record, and the site looks dodgy. The download is over 33MB. They do seem to be hosting their own download though.

All a bit wierd. My first thought was malware. But 33MB of malware?!
