  • Sawg Stuff - Reaper and drewbar please read

Creating a new thread here for both Reaper and drewbar.

    Guys...

I've just noticed that drewbar has a completely updated site for Sawg Stuff 5.2 with major page changes, whereas Reaper's Sawg Stuff mirror site (which I'm hosting) still has the outdated pages for Sawg Stuff 5.0. Therefore it is no longer a true "mirror" site. The reason I took notice of this is because recently I moved the Sawgstuff mirror, as well as Jonas' Dynamic Library and all of DrO's site over to a new server, and had to reset login permissions for all 3 subdomains.

Anyway, I see that there are drastic changes in page layout at sawgweb.com and I need to know a few things...

    @ drewbar...

If you do NOT want Reaper to maintain a mirror site:
    1. I will remove all files from my server and we can change all references in these forums for downloads from the mirror site to point to sawgweb.com instead of to either sawgstuff.ne1.net or nunzioweb.com/sawgstuff/ (both are referenced throughout the forums and in TSGH > WDTPG and WA-D > MRF/P Sticky). BUT... in order to do that, I need to know a few things, so read on...
    2. I know that you changed the site pages layout at sawgweb.com, but did you also keep the downloadable files using the same directory structure as had been at the old site and that is still being mirrored by Reaper? Or are the files in different locations now? Because if they are still in the same locations, then it would be an easy matter for me (and hopefully DJ Egg as well) to change all references in these forums for downloads from the mirror site to point to sawgweb.com instead of to either sawgstuff.ne1.net or nunzioweb.com/sawgstuff/
    3. If you instead moved the files to other locations (not maintaining the same directory structure), then it would be necessary for me (and hopefully DJ Egg as well) to "tediously" go through and change all references throughout the forums and in TSGH > WDTPG and WA-D > MRF/P Sticky. That would be a lot harder but I'm willing to do it.
If you DO want Reaper to maintain a mirror site (which I think is a good idea):
    1. Can you get together with Reaper so that you can send him a ZIPPED version of the new site pages so that he can replace what he now has and instead have a "true" mirror site? Of course this is assuming that it is only the site pages that are changed but that the downloadable files are still intact within the same directories, in which case it would be an easy matter for me (and hopefully DJ Egg as well) to change all references in these forums for downloads. If that is not the case, then...
    2. Still send him a ZIPPED version of the new site so that he can replace what he now has and instead have a "true" mirror site, but in this case he'll probably have to wipe out all files at the server and replace everything anew, along with new directory structures and file locations. Then I will (and hopefully DJ Egg as well) "tediously" go through and change all references to downloads throughout the forums and in TSGH > WDTPG and WA-D > MRF/P Sticky. Again, I'm perfectly willing to do that.

    @ Reaper...

If it turns out that you will still be maintening the Sawgstuff mirror site, but if you do not have time to upload changes to the site once drewbar sends you a ZIPPED version of the new site, you can instead forward it to me and I'll upload the changes. Afterwards, you can just perform perfunctory changes to the site.

    That's it guys...
Let me know what you want to do.

    Take care,
    Nunz

I totally changed the folder structure of the new site, as well as even changed some of the file names to make them more descriptive and remove items like spaces. As well as adding some new files, and removing some old ones as well. Like the mirrored Nullsoft files and some that were just totally out of date.

The old mirror/ and wa folders just wasn't cutting it and making to hard to keep organized. Now each category has a folder suck as winamp5, winamp3, shoutcast and oldies.

Currently the site runs about 13 megs, but I plan to add stuff later.

What I might recomends, so all the files don't need to be updated is that leave your mirror as the old directory structure, but edit the web pages to point to my site. But leaving the files there in their original location, you don't have to update everything.

Now, unfortunately, my Webhost isn't as cool as what you use, so I cannot give you and reaper your own FTP log-ins, but it would still be nice if you wanted to help collect stuff to host. I have 500 Megs of storage and a few gigs of transfer that I don't even come close to touching right now.

If you, or anyone for that matter wants me to add anything you can mail it to me at [email protected]

Sorry for having to bounce Sawg Stuff around a lot, but once I graduated, I lost my ASU webspace. Also, if you want a zip of the entire site, just let me know as well. It's up to you if you want to maintain the old stucture or the new one and run it as a mirror of sawgweb.

      Aaack!
That isn't exactly what I was "hoping" to hear, but thanks for letting me know what the deal is.

Okay, based on what you said I see it boils down to this as the only viable solution...
Still send him a ZIPPED version of the new site so that he can replace what he now has and instead have a "true" mirror site, but in this case he'll probably have to wipe out all files at the server and replace everything anew, along with new directory structures and file locations. Again, I'm perfectly willing to do that.
So, go ahead and ZIP up the site and send it to me (I doubt that Reaper will want to deal with this now).

I'll wipe out all existing files at the server and just upload everything cleanly. THEN... I'll start the arduous task of sifting through the forums to point everything to sawgweb.com and include the mirror for alternate downloads as well.

I feel that due to all the useful and often-requested files you have that a true mirror site is crucial, in case your server fails for any reason. Then the mirror is always there. So, it looks like I'll have to sift through the forums and TSGH > WDTPG and WA-D > MRF/P Sticky.

Okay... ZIP it up and send away!!!

Yeah, but I don't want to force anyone to go through all the work for editing every files, that's why I recomended leaving the old structire intact. But the directory structure really needed an updating.

Unless you can do something like keep the old structure and then add a /new folder with the new layout. Or something. I just don't want to make anyone have to sort through a bunch of threads for old links.

Okay. I'll work something out in that regard. I'd rather not have to sift through the forums either.

btw... received your email and also downloaded the ZIP file. I unarchived it, tested it briefly locally, and the folder structure and links to the files seem to be in place from what I can see.

You can now remove the ZIP from your server.

          @ JonnyMac...

Received your PM but also deleted it due to the fact that my PM box is almost full. I've gotta clean all the crap out of it soon to free up more space. So, I'll continue discussion here re: your concern with the missing EQ preset in the EQ Guide.

I looked at drewbar's site and I also checked the local files I obtained in the ZIP file. Winamp.q1 doesn't exist at Sawg's site, and is not included in the files I now have that are representative of the same files existing at sawgweb.com. However, he also sent me a list of all "archived" files that currently do not exist at his server and Winamp.q1 is one of them. So... I'll make certain that I leave that file intact at the mirror at my server. Drewbar can probably upload it to his server too but I won't ask him to do so till I have the mirror up and running properly as Sawg Stuff 5.2 (won't be right away - I have other things that take precedence right now).

          Note one thing though...

timmy.p44.org is offline and http://timmy.p44.org/sawgstuff/wa/Winamp.q1 is a dead link now. So, the 2nd link is now a dead link anyway in the EQ guide. Now I'm uncertain if Reaper even has the site any longer, or it may just be the old story of that site going down again. But no matter... I'll make sure that the mirrored file at http://sawgstuff.ne1.net/wa/Winamp.q1 will remain in place.

            @Nunzio and drewbar

Small note, while browsing this post,

http://timmy.p44.org/sawgstuff/wa/Winamp.q1 DOES appear to still be ACTIVE.

Hmmm... when I click on that link or even try to access http://timmy.p44.org directly, I get this same message in my browser...

timmy.p44.org could not be found. Please check the name and try again.

That's in Firefox... hang on a sec and I'll test in other browsers.

                http://timmy.p44.org/ loads fine here too.
69.30.205.27 according to ping, but nslookup says Non-existent domain.

http://69.30.205.27 Resloves to a site that says it is a shared domain.

After a ipconfig /flushdns the site is not accessable.

I think it is the old story of the site going down and up again. It was working prior to the PM I sent you.

Yeah. I agree JM. That site's always been buggy.

Here are the results from just now...

Internet Explorer: The page cannot be displayed
Opera: Could not locate remote server
Netscape: timmy.p44.org could not be found. Please check the name and try again.

Bad news. I wouldn't link to it anymore if I were you JM. So you'd better remove it for now from the EQ guide.

                    @ drewbar...

Looks like I might have to go in and edit forums posts anyway.

The very reason I initially offered to host the mirror for Timmy is because of the unreliability of that server.

Yeah, I uploaded a few files to the original nunzioweb/sawgstuff mirror, but I'm not sure which ones at the moment. Probably px.dll, lame_enc.dll v3.90.3/v3.96.1/v3.97.x, in_wm.dll from 5.04/5.08, and maybe some others, heh... all of which are linked to in one or two threads somewhere. I'll look further into it later (5:30am here and badly need sleeeeeep).

I never added the lame_enc files, I just point people to: http://www.rarewares.org/mp3.html
They tend to stay on top of LAME release.
PX and in_wm I can add. I already have the one from 5.02. If you want to give me discriptions of why somone would need in_wm from 5.04 and 5.08 I can add thoes to the HTML page as well.
