  • Playback Speed Increase?

i have a lot of audio files i'd like to listen to at faster rates; i.e., slow talking seminar dudes i'd like rip through quickly at 2x, 4x, or even 10x speed.

is there a feature or plugin to accomodate this feature? i browsed the forums for half an hour but couldn't find anything about this -- sorry in advance if the answer already exists!

Such a plugin does exist, though I'm not sure what its limits on increasing speed are. Try searching for "Chronotron" both on site, and off (Google). I have an old version that was free, but I think the newer versions cost money. I don't use it very often, so I can't say to much about it. I think the version I have though, only goes to 1.5x the normal speed, but I'm not sure. Hope it helps though. Mouser X out.

Try the pitch/tempo preset in the NSPS DSP
      1. Winamp > Ctrl+P
      2. Plug-ins > DSP/Effect
      3. select ' Nullsoft Signal Processing Studio DSP' > Configure button
      4. LOAD button > select 'justin - simple pitch and tempo (half-2x) control.sps' >Open button
      5. don't forget to checkmark 'Enable procession'

Or, as Mouser X suggested, use a third party plug-in. Pacemaker is one of more suggested plug-ins. Unlike the preset in the NSPS DSP, Pacemaker (also Chronotron) will let you change the tempo ("speed") without changing the pitch ("sound"). In other words, plays fast but sounds normal.

thx for that. chronitron gave me a 2x boost.

word to the winamp folks: i'd *love* an integrated playback accelerator option (2x up to 10x) for both audio and video -- and i don't even really mind pitch distortion.

It would be nice if the functionality of Pacemaker were integrated into the Winamp core. Until that happens I guess I will just continue to use Pacemaker as a plugin.

No need. It would just make the installer bigger.

The plugin is there for people who use it, so people who need it can just download it...

              well put that man

ofcourse if every 'essential' thing according to everyone was done you'd have something like the itunes/real player installers

Exactly, an obscure feature like that would not be for everyone... why bundle it with the install?

I have to use the pacemaker plugin mainly because its the only decent plugin that does this kinda stuff for winamp. Although it has bugs which I've noticed and that sucks. I think it is something that should be built in IMO.. Like Windows Media Player that has playback speed adjustments built in.. Not exactly a very hefty size increase if it was built in I'd imagine.

And who cares about a slight size increase, they could make winamp install size 10mb for all I'd care, so long as it added decent enough features to warrant the increase.
My signature was just too damn good to be seen here..

the issue is that what's essential for one isn't for another (personally i don't use dsps as much as i can). as such it's a hard balance to make and hence why we have plugins. either way no one can win so we just have to live with that
