obviously, people are working on circumventing these restrictions. If (or perhaps when) they succeed, we will look closely at the findings and if we can include them in winamp (from a legal perspective) we will.
No surprise, since the ipod was actually intended to work on only itunes at the first time (it was possible until 5G b/c restriction had been cracked.)

actually, thats incorrect. the file's to manage the ipod have always been stored publically on the device. the only difference is the inclusion of a per-device checksum in the file now for newer devices. If the method to generate the checksum is found, the problem is circumvented. Up until this, it was easy to look at the file, and the way the data contained was organised within.
