  • .any movie/video playback

When I attempt to play .avi files or any movie file i get "Nullsoft DirectSound output v2.47 (d) error - Winamp Input Plugin for Windows Media - Windows Media is a trademark of Microsoft Corporation"

I have the latest K-Lite Codec Pack and I am running Vista Ultimate x86.

I also had this same problem with Winamp version 5.5.1550 BETA. (Using 5.5.1568 BETA as of now)

This may or may not be a problem with Winamp. Any info on fixing this problem would be greatly appreciated (cause i cant stand watching with VLC or anything else)

are you sure its an avi and not a wmv file?
what version of windows media codecs do you have?
are you running third party plugins? (something like in_mplayer maybe)

its the cleanest install ever in fact when i installed 5.5.1550 it was straight after a fresh install of vista ultimate and literally the latest codec pack as of last week.

        - have you selected (not necessary, by default) the correct device in Winamp Preferences -> Plugins -> Output -> Nullsoft DirectSound Output -> Device tab?

        - your multimedia drivers are correctly updated?

        - have you updatated to the latest DirectX? ( http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en )

        - Windows Media Player (or any other DirectShow based player with no internal filters) is able to play these files?

        - GSpot (freeware) is able to tells you the required codecs for a given files and the playability (for DirectShow based players)

VLC and mplayer (and clones) are not a DirectShow based players

Also, I usually avoid codec pack's like the plague. They mainly consist of hacked apart directshow filters that conflict with each other etc, and installing them usually just confuses the hell out of directshow.

I actually have this same issue on Vista Business x64. The avi's do play fine in windows media player.

Here's the DxDiag. Just so you know the eror message that I get is "Error creating DirectSound buffer. Error Code 80070057".

                Filters used from an example:
                ffdshow Audio Decoder
                ffdshow Video Decoder
                Nero MP4 Splitter
                Attached Files

Use Haali Splitter for MP4, M4V, OGM, MKV (but not AVI), instead of Nero Sp(l)itter.
