Now, I am an avid user of the old winamp with Predixis Music Magic and was not happy to see it removed! Why: It used to do what it says: find songs in your library which u probably never heard of, perfect for exploring what you have on your harddisk.
Now that the new Winamp came out, with a host of cool features, i tried to give it a shot to try the new playlist generator from Gracenote, which should do just the same thing as predixis.
So what i did is first of all scannning the my library, worked well, and a lot faster than predixis.
Now, i did a look at how the mixer performs. Mainly, this was always the best thing about predixis: It really does find similar songs, and every mix is different....
The interesting thing was: in the case of the song 'She is my sin' from Nightwish, Playlist Generator only found no more than 12 songs (out of my library of 5000 songs)and no matter how often i generated a new playlist, it was always the same list.
From a subjective point also, the playlist generated with predixis where better fit and more similar to the original track, and whenever i press the 'mix' button on predixis there is a slightly different mix. Also the plugin seems to 'learn'...its suggestion become more accurate to my tastes the more i use it. Im not affiliated, in no way, but it -not always but most of the time- does what it says, though its performance on unpupolar music could be better at times, for example, it didnt, in the ase of Nightwish, suggest one song from iron maiden, which is also in my library, and is in fact in many ways similar. Also it can only do a list of 20 songs at one time.
CONCLUSION
Until now, i think Predixis' MusicIP technology is more refined, and works better than Gracenotes.I ll need to review it more to see how it does on other tracks, but Gracenote just didnt hit the line with the first track i used it with.
I'll stick with Predixis for the time beeing, but happily look forward to a more evolved playlist generator.
