  • Can I Add a Warning That Playlist Has Changed?

I'm sure you're all familiar with that warning you get from Windows Notepad when you try to load a new file without first saving the text in the current file:
The text in [filename] has changed.
Do you want to save the changes?

Is there a way to add a similar warning to the WinAmp Classic Skin?

Here's why I'd like to be able to add that feature:

I enjoy monkeying around with my playlists, rearranging the order of the songs, adding songs, and deleting songs. As part of this process I often look in my MP3 folder for songs I might want to add to a playlist. And, more often than not, I'll want to give the song a listen before I add it to the playlist, so I double click it in the Windows folder.

Well, you know what happens, right? The playlist I had just spent a lot of time rearranging vanishes and I lose all that work when the new song starts to play.

It sure would be nice if the WinAmp Classic Skin could pop up a little warning window saying something like:
The current playlist has been modifed
Do you want to save the changes?

Is there a way to configure it to do that?

If not, is there another skin that has that feature?

No,not in a classic skin, not even sure a modern skin could do that, suspect you would need to write a plugin for that, not a skin

Yeah, this has nothing to do with skinning. That's good news, because it means that if somebody makes this plugin or adds this feature, you'd presumably be able to use it along with the classic skin

Who is the milkman? What is the purpose of the goggles?

*cough* http://nunzioweb.com/daz/plu.html *cough* will handle playlist changes though it doesn't do a message on every change. however knowing how Winamp works you could have hundreds of messages spamming you due to a single change to the playlist editor. also i think modern skins can detect a change to the playlist editor but it doesn't allow for what the plug-in offers (note: there's a new version coming out of it in the next week or so which improves a few aspects of the plug-in).

now... to move this thread somewhere else or not...

          That *is* good news!

So does that mean that there might be a plug-in out there that could install a cross-fade button in my classic skin?

Hey! That is the cat's pajamas! Thanks a million, DrO, for pointing me to Playlist Undo! I just installed it and tried it out and was able to retrieve a playlist after it had vanished.

Oops! That must mean my post was out of place in this forum. So, I hope you'll excuse my blunder and move it to where it belongs

it's not quite that simple as it's not easy to add to a classic skin a cross-fade button like is done with the modern skins as the classic format is fixed and doesn't easily allow for changes.

it is possible to make an embedded window which contains some controls equivalent of the modern skin crossfade settings (sort of like this old and unsupported 3rd party plug-in does -> http://www.winamp.com/plugin/nxs-xfade/146156 ) but there aren't any contemporary plug-ins which will do it (plus i think what that plug-in implemented was all that is exposed excluding what is in the standard classic skin ui).
