What do you want to do? Do you just want WA’s visualizations to respond to what is played through the soundcard? Or, would you like WA to play the sound so you can use a DSP/Effects plug-in or the EQ?

For the second part we recommend Jasper's LineIn plugin, which also VIS support according to the web page. .Jasper's plugin uses line:\\ instead of linein:\\.
There is a latency (delay) issue with the plug-in for the sound. .The online docs for Jasper's plug-in has some suggestions for minimizing the delay.

Winamp already has Line-In support for visualizations. That is what I though you were talking about.
Type lnein:// in Winamp's Open URL box, then click the Open button. Note, Jasper's plug-in uses line://, where as Winamp's default plug-in uses linein://.
Depending of the audio source, you will need to set the Windows mixer...
1. double click on the little speaker icon in the Notification Area (systray/tasktray).
2. Options > Properties
3. select/bullet Recording
4. For audio sources external to the computer, make sure 'Microphone' and/or 'Line In' is respectively check-marked for a audio source such as a another media player or browser radio, it will vary with the audio card. Select something like "Stereo Mix", "Wave Out", "What you here", etc.
5. then respectively select the correct slider in the Recording mixer control (<-- Microphone as example).
The above Windows mixer instructions is based on Win XP/2000 and will vary with Vista and Win 7. Apparently with Vista and maybe Win 7, the "Stereo Mix" & "What you here" (etc.) are hidden or disabled by default. No having Vista or Win 7, I can only point you to YouTube video...How to enable Stereo Mix in Vista and set devices

I didnt knew that. I tried it and worked when i set the "audio recording" from webcams microphone, to soundcard (avance ac97).
But then I wasnt able to listen from my webcam's microphone; when i was running the microphone pass through emulator, it echoed the music playback.

forgot to say that even if I leave the audio recording to webcam's microphone, with the LineIn plugin (not the command line of winamp you told me) it "hears" what my soundcard is currently plays, so etc i can play music with another program and have winamp for visualizations.
But if I try the method you told me, then I have to change the audio recording setting to my soundcard.

Winamp's default Line-In support is only for visualizations the sound is not played through Winamp.
When using Jasper's plug-in, to prevent echoes the Microphone and Line In should be muted in the Windows mixer Volume/Playback control (as described in Jasper's instructions for volume settings).
I think this about as far I can take you now.
Good Luck

Thanx a lot for your support! Something last:
I already have set the null output; if I use the line or the lineIn command, winamp doesnt take input from what is currently being played, unless i set the recording device to soundcard.
Where can I see more about these commands, to avoid any plugin?
The LineIn plugin works just fine.
I only had echoes when I used the command "line" & "linein" you told me, and had the soundcard (not the mic) set as recording device.
In the second case I had to mute as you said, but then I could not use my mic, since the soundcard is in the place of mic, for audio recording.
What to do to avoid plugins and have the mic working (mic as setting in audio recording)?

AFAIK, a plug-in is needed to get Winamp's visualizations to react from the sound card or a source external to Winamp. Winamp's default Line_In support is via a plug-in.
At this point I am out of suggestions. Anyone else?

A plug-in is needed for Winamp to sample sound from the soundcard or Line-In support. Winamp comes with it's own plug-in and it uses linein://, typed at the Open URL box. Jasper's plug-in uses line:// typed at the Open URL box. So, both "commands" are seperate from each other and are respectively specific to the plugin. If you did not have Jasper's plug-in, the line:// command would not work. There no are other commands.
The bigest difference between Winamp's default plug-in and Jasper's plug-in, it that Jasper's lets the sound play through Winamp's sound system so you can use a DSP/Effects plug-in or the EQ. Winamp's default plug-in is just for visualizations.

Almost, that is a old reference. Now it is just "Nullsoft LineIn Plug-in". Line-in support was integrated in the CD plug-in, but now is a separate plug-in (maybe from WA ver. 2.91 or 5.00).
