Sound Quality between versions

I chose Winamp as my main player because I prefer the way it sounds over iTunes, WMP, etc.

However, I'd like to be given the option of which Wave Output to use because they don't sound the same.

On my PC I've installed two versions of Winamp (5.5 and 5.572) that use respectively the WaveOut v2.11 and v2.12. Using the same settings and no equalization off, v2.12 has a brighter sound and punchy bass, whereas v2.11 has more body in the mids and a warmer sound. Overall I prefer the old v2.11, for this reason I'm reluctant to upgrade to 5.62 or other versions.

Is there any chance in future versions to have the choice of more than one Wave Output versions?

When I look at the changelogs, I doubt, that any change was made, which would explain the thing you've experienced.

Never mind, WaveOut is very old, why do you not simply use DirectSound output? Hardware based output always sounds better than software based output.
