  • Disable mouse wheel changing volume

    Evening folks,

Looking for a way to disable the scroll wheel changing Winamp's volume when the focus is on Winamp's chrome. I found a tool called MouseWheel_Blocker_v1_0.exe from this thread, but the link is dead. Does anyone have a mirror or an alternative solution?

    TIA

the link is dead as the plug-in was removed and the version you've referenced was even older than the last version which was available. as such i will not provide a copy of the plug-in and instead it is likely to become a native feature as part of 5.7 (once i get a chance to move some of the preference options around so we have a more UI centric page for options like it).

Please do. That plug-in is one of my essentials.

Ah, I thought that might be the case.

Awesome to hear you're still looking to implement it though. Appreciate the hard work.

it makes more sense to be native than a plug-in anyway, just wasn't something that could be added natively when i first made the plug-in. the translators are going to love me with the resource changes adding it will introduce (though i've not messed around with such things for ~2 weeks so is about time to piss them off again).

            [ironic mode]YESSSSSS, a few changes!!!

Good that it were only a hand full of (massive) changes during the last weeks.
And we're glad that you are back to finally change/revamp anything from the scratch again.

            [/ironic mode]

I'm sure as long as you feed us with these useful additions, the translators are fine with it.

there'll be an option on the general preferences page (near the bottom) in whatever comes out as a new release which will do as the plug-in used to do. so that's one more plug-in i can properly kill off.

my wheel doesn't make vol change but I can't remember what I did to get that. it wasn't hard and didn't require a plugin though.
                  Cheers, Pete

                    got it I think
go to output/configure/other and uncheck Volume Control.
                    Done
                    Cheers, Pete

                      Hi djpete1959,

What if DirectSound is not the output plug-in being used? And that does not work anyway, point to the sound slider and roll the mouse wheel back and forth (with this new native option disabled).

The problem was/is that you don't have to be pointing at the sound slider to accidently roll the wheel and change the volume. If the focus is on something that does not scroll and you move the wheel, the volume could change (without the plug-in and now this new option).

and disabling that option in out_ds disables it completely which is not often what is wanted. there's a specific usage case where not having the mouse wheel change the volume is needed (as now natively supported) and it does what is needed without being a) output plug-in specific and b) causing other loss of functionality.

Disables what completely? I have that option disabled and DS still works. I though it was related to the ways DS could control sound and not the rest of what DS does.

that's what i meant (just the volume control and not disabling DS) as to me it nullifies the volume control aspect. anyhoo, don't mind me, random crazy person passing through.

Oh, ok ... sorry. In that statement you used "it" referring to the plug-in's sound feature, I thought "it" was referring to the plug-in.

English can be confusing, especially between your version and mine and reading too fast.
