  • [SPLIT] Discussion and complaints about the 5.7 beta expiration

Winamp v5.7 βeta 13 Build 3444 has expired, without an update... yet.
Perhaps making a 'warning nag' instead of simply throwing us out to the download page may be worth considering.

there'll be some form of update in a few days as other things have gotten in the way which means we've not had enough to warrant an update at the moment. plus i've a few non-Cloud changes to finish fixing so a delay of a few days shouldn't be too much of an issue.

and i did it like how it does to just abort loading so people don't just ignore it and keep using old builds. plus i got fed up very quickly of having to try to keep contacting people to update to newer final / beta versions from the crash reports we'd been receiving (as that was wasting too much of my time with getting crash reports from the first few builds still for issues which had already been fixed).

so i had considered the way you mentioned but it just wasn't going to do what i need i.e. keeping people on a current beta / final build as applicable.

      Hi DrO,

I understand what you've done and why, I basically would like to know if there is any way of continuing to use the current βeta Release (v5.7) until an update is posted, without reverting back to v5.65 in the mean time?

not that i can safely suggest doing due to some variations in internal APIs being used between the last 5.7 build and 5.65 which need to be present otherwise there's a fair chance things may crash.

No Problem. I shall learn to be patient.

Maybe it sounds dumb, but what shall i do when the beta version expires and there is no new one? Back to the normal version? Re-Install doesn't work.. Oo

Not really dumb, but I simply change the computer clock time to yesterday, then open Winamp. While waiting for the new version.

You could try turning your Date (Calendar) back for a couple of days... It works for me!

Yeah.. Mine just expired and now I can't listen to my music..

You guys should make it only expire if there is a new beta available.

I just set the date back a week on my PC, started Winamp, then set the date back to today.

@Chris000001: Thanks for posting that workaround. I didn't fancy going round and removing all my copies of Winamp.

Outstanding judgement and anticipation "DrO" and TEAM......
MAYBE IF YOU GOT THE BETA TO AUTO CHECK FOR UPDATES BEFORE KILLING ITSELF, THEN NOTIFY USER.
                          or something else user friendly.

On the good side i have noticed that "winamp beta" no longer incessantly crashes windows!
It just sits there on the the desktop doing nothing! Remarkable!
So we are relegated to the ranks of the lowly normal users

"DarkForth I told you being a beta tester would get you in trouble"
"Yes your Omnipotence but it means i am at the bleeding, cutting edge of Development"

That must be because i have disabled everything else that was vaguely good that made it different from other run of the mill media players..... dsp, vis, skins,....

My Gawd That Ass looks Goood!

Sorry folks....due to unforeseen circumstances... we'll get a new build out asap, hopefully within the next few days...

Thought I'd try out the latest beta on Windows 7 yesterday but today I booted up and it expired. Got to have Winamp so I'm back to the latest release for now.

On a previous post I had mentioned a problem in Win7 for me that involves using Winamp with the classic theme where it freezes up after attempting to time seek back or forward when using the Direct Show plugin and third party codecs like ffdshow for videos. Apparently it's related to hardware acceleration that's off with the classic theme. Tried tweaking every setting under the sun to no avail.

A workaround is to check the option to show Winamp in the Notification area when playing videos so it'll minimize to the system tray. Sometimes I'll run videos then surf while listening. The problem only occurs when it's minimized to the taskbar then maximized. Doesn't do it in Win XP but then hardware acceleration isn't off with the classic theme.

Edit: the graphics card is an AMD 4000 series and there's 2 gigs ram. If anyone can reproduce the bug please post it because it's practically impossible to use Winamp for videos with direct show on Windows 7 so I mostly go with VLC. The only other option is switching to aero theme, and that's not much of an option.
