I could not agree more with you. I hope that they do put a "Verifier" plugin into WinAmp 7 that cannot be defeated in any way, or, as they say, reverse engineered by anyone except the IT professionals at WinAmp.

i'd suggest you (and everyone else) expect a late 4th quarter release and then if anything happens sooner then you'll be happier than expecting a 1st quarter release (almost unlikely now) and getting annoyed about it. as there is no fixed eta date currently of then 2015 as that's just the state of things at the moment, hence the tweet referenced is as good as it gets 'officially'.

not unless you're volunteering to code it. milkdrop is open source now so there is nothing stopping someone trying to make an update, but something official is unlikely as its just not something we've got direct experience of doing i.e. its a niche skill set.

was just thinking that i'm really surprised there's been no comments about how Winamp will run on Windows 10 (based on the speed at which such questions came out when Windows 8 made it's first pre-release appearance).


anyway, the answer to that question is... i've absolutely no idea.


i assume it'll run like it does on Windows 8.x (assuming you're using the current release + patches which works well enough barring any quirks with high-DPI scaling) as i've not tried out the Windows 10 preview which has been made available (nor am i likely to do so for a while as the key logger thing has concerned me). though i expect when it's closer to a final release and any API changes, etc are more stable then it will be tried out.

I havent kept up with news on the next Windows since it got named 10...

i really don't know. i don't think there will be, but without trying, it's impossible to say for certain (and i'm still reading up on what's meant to be new / changed with the preview - which means things can still and likely will change).

though i think the main changes that 8.x introduced were about all that were needed for 'classic' desktop apps like Winamp is.

just thought i'd pre-empt the question so we've got a reply before it comes up

If you really want to know, Winamp works fine on Windows 10.
For sure its basic functionality... for more tests, lets wait for more stable Windows build and new Winamp build.
