  • Clearly Display Metatags Info and Cover Art for FLAC Files in WinAmp

PLEASE HELP! I have been searching all over the net and wasting so much time over the past week trying to find a simple solution how to display WinAmp on my monitor for my particular visual needs, and still getting nowhere. I even tried searching other Media Players such as Foobar2000 etc, but is a programming nightmare and I do not have the technical expertise to get involved in that. I believe my request and needs are simple, and is simply this:
Staying in the WinAmp Modern look (seems to work the best for me), FIRST I want to CLEARLY display the METATAGs info of each music file I am playing in a dedicated window that shows (in sizeable and readable letters): Artist Name, Track Title, Album Title, Year, Genre, Album Artist, Track No, and Comments. SECOND I want the album Cover ART to display in a dedicated window that I can ADJUST the image and window size bigger or smaller on the screen as I wish. THIRD this must function with FLAC files, not only for MP3! I tried the WinAmp Cover & Tag plugin I think is the name, and I was on the right track, except only worked with MP3s and NOT FLAC! I need something to work with both, especially FLAC lossless and Hi-Res files, is critical for my computer digital music applications. And FOURTH the onscreen visual of the Player must look NICE, CLEAN, SIMPLE and MODERN and do not care about all the bells and whistles and flashy level meters etc showing, and still flexible to change designs and skins etc. And these few simple things without having to learn to be a computer programmer to do this kkk... Again I much appreciate any advise or recommendations from anyone to finally accomplish my Media Player visual objectives, with many THANKS!

Ey, moved your thread to a better fitting section.
What you want is achievable through a Winamp skin (the FLAC support comes from Winamp itself, you don't need to download anything extra). The thing is... which skin is that?..

Let me look around and maybe I can point you to something close enough.. (though I can tell you right now that the "sizeable and readable letters" is a thing on its own..)

Well.. no luck this time. The closest you can get is Kameleon DUI (the look is good but old), it has detachable windows and AlbumArt. The big letters are there.. but not that much, you probably need something bigger.

The alternative is to use CD art display to work along with Winamp, have you tried it? It can display cover and text in a lot of cool and modern ways.
I'm not longer into that stuff (famous last words.. XD), so I couldn't recommend you a specific skin (not even an official link to get the app! Can't find it!), so you'll have to dig up a bit if you're interested and haven't done it yet.. Good luck.

Thank-you Victhor for your time and assistance...
DrO has not responded about his Album Art Viewer Plugin, seeing that maybe he is no longer active for this Plugin support.
Does anyone else out there know of any Winamp Plugin (or any other idea) that supports displaying of Metatags info and Cover Art for FLAC files?
        Desperately waiting... thanks!

you could use the windows explorer extension and open mp3tag on selected files via right click.

Ok I already have mp3tag installed on my computer, and use it exclusively to update my embedded metatags and artwork in all my FLAC and mp3 files, but I do not understand what you mean and how to do this in your explanation regarding Windows Explorer extension, opening mp3tag via right click etc etc. Can you please explain more clearly in detail and step by step how to clearly display the metatag info and artwork for each FLAC file playing in WinAmp? Thanks

maybe i gave a bad answer. my solution doesn't do it in winamp.

but say you were in bento, and a file is playing in winamp, and you want to know the art, and tags, and so on for it. you could:

              1. doubleclick where the artist and title scrolls, which brings up the winamp file info dialog. (Alt + 3)

              or

              2. doubleclick the small artwork just to the right of the player controls, to open the folder where the files are stored.

if you did 2, then u can either highlight a file or files, or go up the tree and highlight the folder name, then do a right click and choose "mp3tag" from the windows explorer context menu. that will put the folder or file[s] into mp3tag for you to examine.

if this isn't what you're after, i don't know of anything better.

I very much appreciate your efforts to try and assist me with what I am trying to achieve in WinAmp. But I think you may not be completely understanding my explanation. I already know how to open and view the file info of a music file playing on the player, and to see all the metadata info inside, not a problem. My desires are more of a visual importance that is displaying on the monitor or TV connected to the computer that I or someone else is seeing. I also have an external Pioneer BDP-140 DVD player that plays mp3/m4a/wma music files from a pendrive, and what it displays on the TV or monitor is modern, professional, and almost exactly what I am looking for on my computer with WinAmp, or whatever other player that can do this and look like this. The Pioneer displays all the metatag info of the song (Artist Name/Track Title/Album Title/Year/Genre/Album Artist/Track Number/Comments) in big clear white or silver letters on a brushed metal black background, along with a nice big substantial window beside it displaying the album cover art. THIS is almost exactly what I want! Modern, clean, clear, and professional display on the TV screen of the album info and art image of each music file playing. When I am sitting in my music room having a drink with a friend and demonstrating my FLAC HI-RES music files from my computer to my HI-FI, on the big-screen monitor display, and a song comes on and my friend comments: Nice, what music/album is that from? Then I have to get up and stand about 6 inches close to the TV monitor to see the tiny (and blurry) Artist name and song title scrolling in the tiny window of WinAmp! Like the Pioneer display, I want to read everything about the album clearly from my music chair, that looks clean and clear to anyone sitting and listening, and knowing what each song is playing. This is what I mean, and if you understand now what I am looking for. Surely there must be something exists out there in the form of a metatag display Plug-in that can make WinAmp display the album metatag info and cover art in this form, clearly on the TV screen, but must function with FLAC files! Many thanks again...

                  maybe this? http://www.stigc.dk/projects/JavaTunes/

though what your asking for really isnt too complicated to achieve. this could easily be thrown together with a web player and some css.

in other words, you want winamp to look like pandora on your tv?

what confused me was your desire to see all tags... there are TONS of tags in files, many of which you prob don't want to see on the tv.

i think you need to mess around with visualization plugins. not sure if the ones with winamp or 3rd party ones would do this, but seems to me vis would be the smart way to do it. maybe find a dev to do it for you if its not out there, as this wouldn't be too intense.

on the TV, you just want the artwork, and in big font, the artist, title, album, comment and some other things right? how do you currently connect winamp to your tv?

No I do not want to see all the tags, only the principal ones that I mentioned in my last post, ex: (Artist Name/Track Title/Album Title/Year/Genre/Album Artist/Track Number/Comments), plus the cover art in an ADJUSTABLE window - and not TINY can barely see it! I found a Plugin searching on the net called something like WinAmp Cover & TAG Plugin, that re-used the Video window to display the album Tags, but it only worked with mp3 files and NOT FLAC! DOHH!! I think I could have gotten by with that if worked with my FLAC files. Then I found something called Album Art Viewer Plugin by DrO, but it seemed outdated and would not load and synchronize with my latest version of WinAmp. I also want to be able to change the general look and visual with options of different skins, a modern and clean black background with grey or silver hilights look - sizeable and READABLE letters in an organized list displaying the album info, plus the cover art in adjustable window, as explained above. Info and Art that UPDATES automatically with each new song (FLAC) that plays in the Playlist in Shuffle mode - Simple. My monitor (which is also my flat-screen TV) is connected to my computer with HDMI cable as normal, nothing special. Appreciate much the continued assistance!

Looks like what you want is too specific, or at least you are looking into details. I don't about plugins doing that, but most (if not all) can be done through a custom-made skin.
You can try doing it yourself or you can ask for it to be done, probably paying for it since it does require some time investment..

PS / EDIT: If you have the time, I would advise you to try to modificate a skin that's close enough to what you need. Do some research about the existing skins, and grab the one that comes closer. Start from there.

Which existing skins? Are you referring to the standard list of skins that are already provided inside the latest version of WinAmp, or are there other custom options available on the net via a website(s) to download and import into WinAmp, to give more options of what is already available and included with WinAmp? Thanks!
