And, to be honest, haven't even noticed the icons issue you mentioned, since I have zero icons on my desktop.
I made a full resolution standalone Winamp dark icon.

    • Hello DJ Egg. Why the decision to abandon the build system? Previously, we could understand that 5.7.0.3444 is the old version and 5.6.0.3516 is the new version. How will version control work?

      • upd 5.6.6.3516 in a previous post. sorry.

        • I mean how are we going to distinguish 5.9 rc1 from 5.9 rc2 or 5.9 final by winamp.exe version?

It was the other way round. The build system abandoned us.
It was originally hosted on an AOL server, which ofc we lost access to back in 2013.
Then Benski wrote a new build script for Jenkins, but that machine died back in 2018 ish, just after we put out 5.8

Benski is currently unavailable :-( so now we just manually build straight from VS2019 and the NSIS script.

We'll reset and switch back to using build numbers for 5.9.1
            e.g. 5.9.1.0001 or whatever

But for now, the build number will stay as 5.9.0.9999 for this release
and will only be identifiable by the beta1, rc1, final etc. part of the filename - and the timestamp.

            • WA 5.9 has a problem with the EQ presets, it is loaded in another language.
I already deleted the file in "C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Winamp\Winamp.q1"
but it has not been solved.

                • So for bugs????

Hi! First of all as a near 40 year old computer admin and using winamp with windows xp, I am extremely happy that a new release was created! Buuut I have a bug to report. I opened a flac file and it played perfectly fine. I opened an mp3 file and all I heard were weird noises... I can assume it migh be the lack of a CODEC on my machine
                  Machine specs:

                  11th Gen Intel i711800H
                  32 GB RAM
                  OS: Windows 10 Pro
                  Version: 21H2
                  OS Build: 19044.1826
                  Experience: WIndows Feature Pack 120.2212.4180.0

                  Thanks in advance!

Thank you. I understand that you used a neural network to improve the picture. It needs some more work on it to make it look great, but anyway this one looks better than the pixelated one. So thanks.

                      • I just installed and I realized that Queue Manager feature is missing. That one with the shortcut Q or Alt+Q. I often use this feature but now it's not there anymore. I was upgrading from version 5.666.

I easily have a larger music library than you do, and I have no issue with album art processing and displaying in the Media Library.

Let me ask you this - did you install 5.9 RC1 over an existing Winamp installation? If so, I'd like to suggest removing the previous version and installing 5.9 RC1 fresh and then we can go from there.

And only the classic skin still works:

I also installed Winamp on a clean virtual windows 7 x64. But there is the same error.
Getting the same, looks like some plugins are causing problems\not compatible.

If you move out the following plugins from the plugin directory, modern skin support loads and works(mostly)
                              in_avi.dll
                              in_cdda.dll
                              in_dshow.dll
                              in_flac.dll
                              in_linein.dll
                              in_midi.dll
                              in_mkv.dll
                              in_mod.dll

In addition to modern skin support, gen_tray.dll plugin also fails to load because of further plugins
                              in_wave.dll
                              in_wm.dll

                              • Technical points aside, 5.9 is sounding extremely good. I believe it sounds even better than Signalyst HQPlayer 4 Desktop, priced 199€, which I have been using for years and considered it the second best in the world (after Bug Head Emperor).
Especially sonically improved is Nullsoft MPEG Audio Decoder v4.4. I did a blind A/B test comparison with the old Nullsoft MPEG Audio Decoder v4.103 and 4.4 shows considerably greater depth, better definition and particularly better transient response. But formats like FLAC or m4a also sound better than on Winamp 5.666.
