Let me ask you this - did you install 5.9 RC1 over an existing Winamp installation? If so, I'd like to suggest removing the previous version and installing 5.9 RC1 fresh and then we can go from there.

Please read the release notes. The presets showing in Japanese (?) is a *known* issue.

If you move out the following plugins from the plugin directory, modern skin support loads and works(mostly)
          in_avi.dll
          in_cdda.dll
          in_dshow.dll
          in_flac.dll
          in_linein.dll
          in_midi.dll
          in_mkv.dll
          in_mod.dll

In addition to modern skin support, gen_tray.dll plugin also fails to load because of further plugins
          in_wave.dll
          in_wm.dll
Gads...not only is this discussed in the release notes, it has been discussed *ad nauseam* on this very thread! Bottom line: Do a *fresh* install (don't install over 5.666 or 5.8) and *wait for RC2* wherein some or most of the 3rd party plugin issues will be resolved.

          • So, in general, if Winamp is working perfectly for me, I should probably leave it alone? Wait for another release if I use a lot of plugins and need them to keep working?

Sounds like that's the best thing to do for those of us who don't want to mess things up but thanks so much for the new release Hopefully it'll just get better and better

It's what I'm choosing to do. 5.9 RC1 is the first release candidate after what I believe was a year of closed beta testing. It has known issues and yet I'm finding it extremely stable. There is a manifest hack that allows some 3rd party plugins to work but I'm not going to risk blowing up my present install, not when there's a good chance that these issues will be resolved either in RC2 or a later 5.9.1.

I have multiple versions of Winamp running merely by having installed them in folders titled \winamp5666 or \winamp58 or \winamp59 or \wacup, etc. You have to name them that in the installer. This way they all run separately. However, I have all file associations pointing to 5.9 RC1.

There are 4 ea, 3rd party plugins that run as-is with no hacking:

              NXS Big Clock
gen_lyricsplugin.dll (the one that grabs lyrics)
Album Art 0.6 (can be found earlier in this thread by DJ Egg)
              Perfect Declipper

I'm certain there are more. Have you tried a clean install and then try adding the plugins one-by-one to see which work and don't work?

I'm happy to provide links for the other 3 in the list.

              • To comment on the replacements for Gracenote, not a fan of the projected possibilities, would it be easier to renew the contract with Gracenote or work out a new agreement... I loved the integration when it was present, fixed a lot of tags with Winamp in it's hay day, would love to restart again knowing that the tagging feature would be 97% accurate

BTW, congrats on the new revision, keep on the hard work

                • I am very nearly jumping for joy at this. People kind of laugh when I say I'm still using Winamp because I love it so much, but it truly is my go-to, my only, music player on my laptop. To hear you're updating it? Best news all week. Love love love!

Thanks for this valuable information. I use this feature as well a lot and can't live without it anymore... 5.666 it is then.

I did it twice and the only one way to make it work properly from Windows 8.1 (64-bits) is via safe mode.

                          • Just to clarify...

The issue where some 3rd-party msvc90-dependent plugins were showing as "not loaded" under all OS was a manifest-related issue (as outlined earlier in this thread) - and is already fixed for the next public version.

The issue where some 1st-party plugins (Modern Skins gen_ff, gen_tray, ml_bookmarks, ml_disc, ml_history, ml_rg, ml_impex, ml_transcode) are "not loaded" on Windows 7 to 8.1 is a separate issue that we are still investigating.

We hope to have it fixed asap so we can then release another public build...

                              • No crashes, but completely unusable on my 32 inch 4K monitor. So tiny I can't see anything. Control to increase scaling is missing.

I can only get the "Classic" skin. Trying to use the Modern skin throws up an error message that I don't have Modern Skin support installed - but I made sure that it was checked during installation.

                                Oh well, back to 5.666.

                                Nice try but no banana.
