    @jvidal

    Thanks for the info.

We'll need to recreate that environment and run some tests.

    Re: usb drives
You'd need to blacklist the drive letter via pmp_usb settings

I insert tons of drives every day, it's not practical, isn't there a way to disable that feature completely, for any and all drives?
(I mean, other than renaming/deleting pmp_usb.dll, which is what I do for now)

small glitch: whenever you install a new version, UI language settings are ignored and language is reverted to english (I had selected es-us) and you have to select language again.

testing build 10025: issue persist (using add-->folder method)
using that method, I got a lot a wrong entries, mostly special characters like Mötley Crüe, but spanish accented words are not affected.

dragging and dropping from Win explorer partially mitigates the issue, but now spanish accented words are affected, but words like Mötley Crüe are not...

            hi Egg,

a lot to breakdown here, sorry if its long winded.

i did extensive testing on 4 different laptops. i'll try not to delve too deeply into the vagaries of each one, but rather leave you with some conclusions or at least my speculations. i'll respond to you first:

yeah, i now believe that was a red herring. i don't think the lag/delay issue is much impacted by file location, (unless there is a bottleneck, like usb2, etc).

(as often happens, i spot several bugs at once, like i did the C:\ issue, and it can easily be conflated; not obvious more than one bug is happening)

i am almost positive that both of those ARE checkmarked by default (on a new/clean install). so, i would say you are not testing with default settings, but i would also say that i think this is another red herring, i really doubt that either of these checkboxes matter, checked or unchecked.

i got the term "scratch playlist [area]" from DrO. when i say the scratch playlist, i mean what you see on the top far right of winamp in bento, which when expanded, can also have artwork at the bottom. its a scratch playlist because it dynamically updates, depending on what ur doing and clicking on in the media library. i almost never interact with it, but i did here for my testing.

the other playlist areas are either the "tab" which would be in the tabs row if present, or the "playlist" category on the far left. i am NOT talking about, nor do i use, either of those.

            (i like smartviews)

all my testing used the default string. i suspect tho, that the lag u experienced with ur string is related to my lag issue.

did u mean to say 5.8.1? or 5.9.1?

idk there was a 5.8.1 internal if that is what u meant.

i'm not sure i follow your intent here, is it to recreate my one environment where everything is on C:\?

probably a good idea regardless given the playlist issues.

(TH tried with around 100k items on a pretty fast & new pc).
            who is TH?

and there in the final line i think u have hit on it!

based on my testing of the various laptops and different versions, from 5.8 to 5.9.1 RC3, i believe the issue is MASKED by superior hardware, and/or smaller result sets.

if you have a weak processor, and weak ram, ur more likely to see the issue. if you have larger result sets, or more complicated ATF strings, etc, ur more likely to see the issue.

in other words, raw computing power comes into play here. (its more a function of how powerful the machine is, rather than what age it is)

my everyday laptop has RC3 now. my laptop is a SSD, and win10, 8gigs ram, on AMD A4-5000. it can do everything i need it to, and its quiet. i can do two video streams at the same time on it, and barely hear the fan, its good at staying cool. BUT its no powerhouse, it doesn't crush; can take its time encoding a mp3 e.g., etc. i don't play games on it.

            anyway:

            1. on that laptop, when i have a full results set of 90k items in a smartview, and they are loaded into the scratch playlist area, i can get lags of 10 seconds or longer!! ...when manipulating things via the ML, esp the tracks pane, like double clicking something in it to play.

            2. however, if i filter the smartview panes above such that the tracks pane has fewer results, say 500, there is no lag whatsoever.

            3. if i use the player controls, with shuffle or without, or click tracks randomly in the scratch playlist area, or just let winamp play whatever it wants next, there is no lag whatsoever.

            4. so i played around with result set sizes, and found that with 45k items, the lag was basically cut in half. direct correlation. at 15k, the lag dropped to about a second or two. at 10k, the lag is there, but def under a second.

            ---

i believe i never noticed it before bc the alienware laptop i used to use was strong enough to mask the issue, however, i now believe this issue dates back to at least 5.8, and probably earlier versions as well.

at this point, i think i have proven that there is an issue with how the ML interacts with the scratch playlist when stressed under the conditions i laid out above. its not just having a huge scratch playlist... u can click on items directly in it, or use the player controls, etc, and have no lag. the lag only occurs when trying to do something within the ML that impacts the scratch playlist.

[i should clarify that issues/buggy behavior can arise in just doing things, mostly navigating, inside the ML without impacting the playlist, but those issues seem more random and intermittent, and probably would be fixed if the lag issue were fixed]

it would be great if you or a dev on the team could find a machine that can run win10, but is nevertheless relatively "weak" computationally. bc if u can, i am sure you could reproduce the issue, as i have, on all 4 machines.

please lmk what you think, thx, -mdw

              @MrSinatra

Yes, I need to create a new test environment.
And also something for the rest of the dev team to reproduce.

TH is the initials of one of the devs.

5.8.1 internal was never publicly released.

Other than that, neither your nor jvidal's issues have been addressed for RC3.
              We're still looking into them...

that's Kool and the Gang Egg, i just wanted to provide as much and as thorough information as possible to help you all identify and reproduce the issue.

i'm really enjoying RC3 otherwise! actually, another thought i had about why i might have missed this before, is that i normally work in smaller result sets, like one or several albumartists, or a genre, etc, so it wouldn't be as pronounced or even noticeable at all.

anyway, keep up the good work!

Hi there, I just upgraded to 5.9.1 RC3 from 5.9 RC1 (winamp59_9999_rc1_full_en-us.exe) and Winamp crashes when being opened after finishing the installation.
It manages to open up the skin and load up the track album art, starts to play 2 seconds of the selected track when it crashes and opens an error report.

I am running Winamp with a ClassicPro Bento skin, a Windows 7 Taskbar Integration plugin (Win7Shell) and the LyricsPlugin. The display language is English.

I tried running Winamp in safe mode and it loaded correctly up with my chosen skin, but still was prone to crashing a few times when using it - once after trying to change a skin it crashed completely, and once hovering over some elements in the top toolbar made them black out.

(Reverting to 5.9 RC1 gets Winamp working again with the same plugins and skins)

I've attached the crash log opened by the Winamp Error Reporter and a report from Winamp Info Report on 5.9.1 RC3.

That’s interesting, bc I was thinking it was probably the lyrics plugin until u said it also does it in safe mode…. I wonder now if safe mode is working properly??

Could u also try RC3 while removing those extras manually? And could u also say what file formats ur audio is?

I don't see the lyrics or Win7Shell plugins referenced in the log, so I guess safe-mode must be working in preventing them from loading.

Is there a specific reason why you're using 5.9.0 RC1 and not 5.9.0 Final?

Does the problem also happen with 5.9.0 Final?

I guess it's possible that we've broken (some/all) ClassicPro skins, or maybe a specific feature...
What tab/feature is active in your skin.
Is it maybe a browser tab?

Is there a download link for this skin somewhere?

Does Winamp 5.9.1 RC3 still crash if choosing standard Bento/Modern/Classic skin during installation?

Yesterday before I installed 10025 over 10021, I created a restore point just in case. I looked around the ML because I was curious about the NFT. Later a Yellowstone episode was copied to an external folder and a shortcut was made. I only play videos in Potplayer. Later on, my shortcut failed to play. None of the steps to show the file worked though it was actually there. I had to restore Windows to before installing 10025 and the problem disappeared. I'm now doing a repair install of Windows.
