Exactly. Once again, the very same posters claiming the very same issue (crashing) even with a clean install. They've been "declaring," since the 5.9.0 RC's, that Winamp is "unstable." They never say it's "unstable for me" - just "unstable," a "disaster," etc., etc. I've yet to hear one of them write and say, "I built a new PC, new hardware, new OS install" and then claim the very same issue. It just never seems to occur to them that their own hardware and OS build might be the issue since every single version from 5.9.0 RC's onward have worked great for the rest of us. This tells me these very same posters have a vested interest in convincing other would-be users of the official Winamp builds to stay away. Gee...I wonder why that might be...

This is not true. I'm a big fan of Winamp. I have been using winamp since 1999. I know a lot about winamp. I made plugins for winamp. and believe me, I'm not saying from scratch that he has problems. this is not a criticism.

Of course it's a criticism. I have no doubt you're a fan of Winamp. What I don't understand is your need to endlessly criticize v 5.9.x of Winamp in light of the facts:

        1. It cannot, for copyright issues, include code from 5.666. You, on the other hand, are free to use 5.666 or 5.8 and the legacy plugins that are incompatible with 5.9.x.

        2. You claim that 5.9.2 was "rushed" to release. This is a baseless accusation as no such thing occurred. 5.9.2 was released to address a laundry-list of bugs the devs have tackled so far. 5.9.3 will address more bugs and will likely include a few new features. I don't understand what your expectation is. 5.9 is a work in progress.

        3. 5.9.2 works for the rest of us and we're able to enjoy the nice range of plugins that are compatible with it. It's obvious you're never going to be happy with it no matter what the devs address, correct, and implement. The devs cannot fix 3rd party plugins that are no longer compatible.

My question to you is, why not go back to a version of Winamp you're pleased with, or move on to another player? What is it that you think your non-stop criticism of 5.9 is accomplishing? I have no doubt in my mind that **CUP would fit your needs perfectly so why aren't you using it instead of 5.9 since 5.9 obviously doesn't suit your needs?

Again, I ask: What is it you hope to accomplish with all this endless criticism and refusal to consider that any issues you're having may very well be yours since others such as myself are running 5.9 with no issues at all?

I honestly have no idea what are people here talking about, I've been using the most recent version (5.9.2) since the day one (Windows 11 machine) and have zero problems with it - works just the way it should.

I am in no way suggesting that discussing "wish lists" of what we'd like to see in future versions of Winamp desktop is in any way criticism of 5.9.x, provided that it isn't "well, until they bring back certain features of 5.666, I'm going to pass," stated over and over from the same end user after being told that features from 5.666 aren't possible due to copyright. It's needless and annoying. Folks, look...this dev team has done something that all of us thought would never happen: They resurrected Winamp desktop and gave it new input/output plugins, among others, updating it after years of no activity. Yes, all of us by now are aware of the Owner's use of NFTs. I cannot state often enough that earlier versions of Winamp came with all manner of "clown-ware," services meant as revenue streams for the former owner of Winamp. They weren't any worse than NFTs and I maintain that at some point, when the current owners of Winamp realize that the NFT model isn't particularly popular or profitable, they'll abandon it.

All of this is complicated by the fact that Winamp has competition, namely...Winamp, masquerading as **CUP. Not only is that developer utilizing code that doesn't belong to him, he and his band of followers do nothing but throw shade at the official Winamp build and that criticism is centered around their objection to the NFT scheme. Complicating adoption of 5.9 even further is yet another competitor - Winamp 6.x.x which currently doesn't exist in any state that is anything like what has been promised.

My wish list for the future then, is to **hit-can the currently mythical 6.x.x, and invest that time into giving Winamp a new skinning engine that puts it on par with other players who offer skins that leave Winamp's skins in the dust because Winamp's current skinning engine is from another era. On the other hand, Winamp desktop has Milkdrop and AVS and it just blows away the competition. I've mentioned AIMP a few times. Its visualizations are based on Sonique and they're awful - they don't even look good in 1080p, and many of those currently skinning for AIMP don't even include visualizations in their respective skin, so it's not like Winamp is alone in utilizing some ancient technology. As I already said earlier, the Winamp devs are trying their best to pull Winamp into the present and so far, they've done a remarkable job. That's why I object to all this endless criticism with the same issues being rehashed ad nauseam. That criticism isn't valued by anyone, unless the **CUP people think it's useful to pull 5.666/5.8/5.9.x users into their camp. I wish those people luck. They haven't updated since March 2021. I won't even discuss their beta program and the emotional investment it requires.

Exactly. It's why I'm so suspicious regarding the exact same people who've been going on and on about how bad these 5.9 releases are.

For Windows 10 5.9.0 was the crap one but 5.9.1 fixed the standard important format things like mp3 and m4aaand flac and wave crashing but if 5.9.2 is doing that again which is why its not on the website unlike 1 I'll think Ill miss that for the moment so thanks for the heads up about 2.

Something I've noticed was lack of YouTube audio only formats working.

.WebM audio only Format version : Version 4 / Version 2 Opus
                  Codec ID : A_OPUS

New part of in ogg family that isn't playable in there yet.

                  .mp4 .dash Codec ID : dash (iso6/mp41)
                  AAC
                  Format/Info : Advanced Audio Codec
                  Format profile : LC

Part of the m4a and aac family

Is it possible to include the new audio only formats in in ogg and in aac/m4a.

Good example of a legitimate call-out. I'll leave it to DJEgg or other dev to address this one. 5.9.x does indeed seem to be missing some audio codecs. I had no issue with 5.9.0 or its RC previews but I wasn't trying to play anything other than Mp3, AAC and FLAC. I don't remember if I tried playing some of the old ALAC stuff I encoded ages ago when I was a Mac user until I realized that it was really never a popular alternative to FLAC or at least, never seemed to be. In any event, I had AAC versions of the same music. By the way, if you run into any issues with a stubborn codec type, in the interim, I'll put in a plug for "fre:ac," perhaps the fullest-featured audio converter I've ever used on the Windows 10/11 platforms and its freeware.
