Volume/balance sliders missing in Android version

I've dug through the FAQs; I've rummaged the Fora; I think I know where they should be, but they're NOT. I have Winamp Pro on a Droid Razr M android phone, The volume buttons on the side of the phone work, but no slider visible, either on the main player page or the equalizer page. Winamp claims to be V1.4.15 and auto-update is on. This is an annoyance, since my ears are old enough to need balancing (no comments about the rest of me), and I can't. What is the magick incantation to cause the missing sliders to appear?

pretty sure winamp only uses volume control built into the phone
that it doesnt have its own control
you can use the preamp slider in equilizer as a volume control if needed
