  • Forum Navigation is very slow using Firefox

In the last week, probably less, I've noticed navigation on the forum is very sluggish.
I use Firefox 31.0 and the slow response persists even with all add-ons disabled.

Sometimes it takes 10 or 15 seconds to make the initial connection.
Sometimes it takes 2 or more minutes for "Go to first new post" to complete.
Sometimes a new page does not load completely.

Just now I had to stop and then restart loading the page in order to see the "Preview Post" button.

Is it me, or is it you?
Are modifications or tests to the website being done?

i'd probably expect it might be something between you and the servers as i've not seen anything like it and am not seeing any service alerts and no one is working on things with the forum afaik. or maybe we're just not liking anyone not in europe now

Also in Berlin the Winamp Forums came up very quickly in the second tab of my Transparent Firefox (in the first tab I have my YouTube-Channel).

Edit: Also my Posting came very quickly. Only yesterday I had many non-respondings of my Firefox, because I had my regular virus-scan, and then I cannot do very much at my PC.

                Thank-you everyone, for your replies.

My little problem reminds me of when I take my car to the mechanic and say "It's making a strange sound. What's wrong?"
And the mechanic says "Let's go for a drive and I'll listen."
But the car runs normally and refuses to demonstrate the annoying noise to the mechanic!
Then, to make matters worse, the sound returns as I drive home!

At 9:20:00 AM Greenwich Mean Time, everything was hunky-dory.
10 minutes later, the site was as slow as molasses.
                Now, everything is fine again.

The problem seems to be sporadic and I haven't recognized a pattern or cause.

                I'm mystified.
I guess I'll just do what I usually do: ignore it and hope the problem goes away.

                  Hi ryerman,

Does this only happen with this site?

I suggest running the Task Manager (or Process Manager) on the Processes tab with the CPU column selected to sort from most to least (and all users' processes selected). When the slow down occurs look to see if anything is using a lot of CPU resources. If not, then it is related to your internet connection (hardware or service provider). Have you updated your LAN hardware drivers recently? If so try rolling back to the previous driver, if not look to see if an update is available.

If it continues into next week, give your service provider a call. They may be adding equipment or performing some unannounced maintenance.

                    Hi Aminifu.

Yes, only with this site. But not right now.

Thanks for the advice. Is it correct to assume that, because it is site specific, I can rule out the problems you've mentioned?

Probably yes, but it won't hurt to check if something is grabbing the CPU when the slowdowns occur. I assume you've cleared out your browser cache.

I hope whatever it is goes away soon. Waiting minutes for a page to load is not fun.
