WINAMP Windows desktop version download directory on server

Hello Admins,

In the not too distant past, the WINAMP Windows desktop version download address was:

https:\\download.nullsoft.com/winamp/client/[WINAMP-FILE-NAME.exe]

When removing the file name, this directory would show a listing of WINAMP installers (with full names) available for downloading.

https:\\download.nullsoft.com/winamp/client/

More recently, the WINAMP Windows desktop version download address was changed to:

https:\\download.winamp.com/winamp/winamp_latest_full.exe

When removing the file name, this directory now produced the "403 Forbidden" error message.

https:\\download.winamp.com/winamp/

Could you please set that directory to allow browsing the file content of the directory so that we can download the latest (or older) version with the full name (e.g. Winamp592_10042_final_full_en-us.exe) instead of the generic "winamp_latest_full.exe" name.

still works , since the owners of Winamp are going with the browser version instead of the desktop version i would not bet on any changes in this area.

I am not seeing any working capability at:
https:\\download.nullsoft.com/winamp/client/[WINAMP-FILE-NAME.exe]
It just returns "403 Forbidden"

As I said, I am looking for "the latest (or [recent] older) version" of Winamp with the full name and not "winamp_latest_full.exe"

There is no good reason not to enable the directory browsing on the download server, allowing someone to download the latest version with the full name and slightly older versions too.

Currently, there is no way to roll back to a slightly older version of Winamp if I no longer have the installer. I do not remember the file names of the installers from recent older versions to tack onto the end of the download link (https:\\download.winamp.com/winamp/) to get them.

each time you click on the link in my signature you don't go to a website but it should give you a download location on your HD where to save the installer.
In case of a 403 you are doing something wrong and which law makes it so that someone should give you access to downloads on their domain? I know that i wouldn''t do that , nowdays it's not safe anymore to do that.. So latest , click link and google for older versions , there are more websites like https://filehippo.com/download_winamp/history/

I do not know what you are talking about, enabling the ability to view the content of the PUBLIC download directory at https:\\download.winamp.com/winamp/ does not compromise the Winamp site in any way. It only exposes the content in the directory which is only publicly available files that were available for download.

So latest , click link and google for older versions , there are more websites like https:\\filehippo.com/download_winamp/history/

I do not want to download older versions of Winamp from other web sites that may have virus infected copies. Additionally I am only interested in the most recent old versions that may not be in the collections on other sites.

I am not interested in arguing about this topic any further. I am trying to be a helpful person by suggesting changes to the Winamp download web site at: https:\\www.winamp.com/downloads/ that will make it a better place to visit.

The current site only allows for the downloading of the current version of Winamp. I feel that it should provide for the download of recent older versions. It also should have the latest download version named with the full file name, and not just the "winamp_latest_full.exe" generic name. This can be accomplished by simply enabling the download directory to be browsable. (Of course the browsable directory is only useful to knowledgeable people who know that you can copy the download link and remove the file name to get into the browsable directory listing) If you still feel that this somehow makes things unsafe, then just modify the web page html code to have the recent older versions listed on the page and make the latest version have the full name in the html code and in the hidden download folder file name. (This solution will allow all people who visit the download page to download old versions easily, no URL editing required.)

So nobody cares or nothing will be done anymore for the desktopversion or for the website.

Winamp employee here. While there hasn't been any formal communication, the desktop player development is effectively on hold since the departure of DJ Egg and the remaining of the desktop team after the release of version 5.9.2.
You can check https://www.llama-group.com for the latest company info.
TLDR : We are currently under Judicial Reorganization. Winamp's parent group sold Shoutcast to be able to repay old debts. There have been layoffs affecting the development of the desktop player. We're focused on building a modern web and mobile platform.
