  • "WMA codec not installed" - so why can't I play mp3s?

    This is weird. I was looking to get a "What am I playing" script, and everything was fine, working normally, and I realised that the plug-ins bit was the only thing in Winamp I hadn't properly explored in the three (errorless) years I'd been using it. And I got to the "output" section and there was "Nullsoft WMA output plug-in" v0.90. "[NO CODEC INSTALLED]".

    Well I don't really care that there isn't a WMA codec, I don't ever play WMA files. But no every time I go to play any file, (mostly mp3) it comes up with this error message saying "WMA codec not installed, get one at http://www.winamp.com". So I searched this forum, came up with a link to a codec, installed it, and the error is still there.

    I'm confused.

    Am using:
    Winamp 2.64
    Windows Media Player 9 on WinXP (if that's relevant)
    + WMA codec download

    Even though the codecs may be available, the best option, I believe to be, would be a full uninstall/reinstall.

    TSGH -> Uninstall/Reinstall Procedure/

    Hope that helped.

        Yup, IW - basic rule of Winamp usage:
        the active output plugin is the hi-lighted one.

        DirectSound or WaveOut for normal playback,
        Diskwriter or WMA Output to convert files to WAV/MP3 or WMA respectively . . . as long as relevant system codecs are installed.

        3 years eh?! lol.
        Hey, v2.64 is probably almost as old as that.
        Then again, out_wm.dll is still the same 0.90 version in Winamp 2.91
