  • Winamp worked this morning but doesn't tonight!

Winamp worked fine playing MP3s earlier today and the previous weeks but doesn't now.

No MP3s I have tried will work playing. This is Winamp v 5.01 being run on a AMD Athlon 2800+, 512MB with a SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 audio card.

The plug-ins it says it has are as follows:

    Input:

    Nullsoft CD/Lineln plugin (CDB2) v3.0
    Nullsoft DirectShow Decoder v0.9
    Nullsoft MIDI player 3.03
    Nullsoft Module decoder v2.2.10 beta29(x86)
    Nullsoft MPEG Audio Decoder 3.0
    Nullsoft NSV Decoder v1.02
    Nullsoft Vorbis Decoder v1.35
    Nullsoft Waveform Decoder v2.06
    Microsoft WINAMP/WMA plug-in v1.13(x86)

    Outputs:

    Nullsoft Disk writer plug-in v2.0c (x86)
    DirectSound output v2.2.8
    waveOut output v2.0.2a
    Nullsoft WMA Output plug-in v0.90 (x86)

    Error message is as follows:

    waveOut output v2.0.2a error

Unsupported PCM format (44100 Hz, 16bits per sample, 2 channels). Please change format settings in input plug-in configuration or change output device in waveOut plug-in configuration.

    Error code: 32
    Windows error message:
"The specified format is not supported or cannot be translated. Use the capabilities function to determine the supported formats."

    Thanks for any help!

Unless you're running Win9x/ME, you should be using DirectSound Output on Win2k/XP/2003, not WaveOut Output.

Note: DirectSound Output requires DirectX v8 or higher

Tips on configuring/tweaking out_ds can be found here:

Also, sometimes, a simple reboot is all that is required.
