  • Bad_pool_header BSOD with Winamp

    Hi There!

Some months ago I installed beta SP2 and from that moment onward I had the above bsod with nero, any version, as soon as it loaded, bang. Windows Error reporting eventually pointed me to an Intel download location and it was fixed. I recently updated both my intel raid and intel chipset drivers, and since then winamp gives the above bsod. I have reinstalled 3 point versions of winamp 5, uninstalled cleanly using the guide, tried reverting back to the date previous to the driver install, looked for updated drivers, and no luck. I need my winamp, but I can't fix this problem.

    I have a:

    2.8HT Intel chip
    p4p800 deluxe m/b
raid 0 striped WD raptor drives
    1gb of ddr400 memory
    5900 nvidia chipset leadtek vga
    bluetooth ms kb and mse
    audigy 2 zs sound card.

PLEASE HELP ME!! I am desperate.

I tried system restore but it won't restore. Reimaging would have to be my last resort, in fact I wouldn't do it to get winamp back, since I have 300GB of data now.

Sorry I forgot to mention I had since installed full sp2 and patches and that in every other respect my pc was faultlessly behaving

      STOP 0x00000019: BAD_POOL_HEADER
This can only be caused by faulty/incompatible hardware or (more than likely) faulty drivers.
Gain technical skills through documentation and training, earn certifications and connect with the community

There's been quite a few new reports (on various tech forums on the net) of this BSoD occurring since the installation of XP sp2. However, it seems that it may not be new drivers to blame, but XP sp2 has exposed a fault in old exisiting drivers.

I would suspect the SB Audigy here.
Have you tried the latest Creative (*gulp*) drivers? Or even the KX Project drivers instead?

What exactly are you doing at the time for the problem to occur?
ie. which winamp windows are open? which skin are you using? what filetypes are you playing? etc etc..

      What programs/processes are running concurrently?

Have you tried a clean install of 5.07 (with NO 3rd-party plugins) and applied the various DirectSound Output tweaks?

Yeah I can update the sound card drivers. I wish for gaming thier was a really good alternative to creative. Creative support and drivers are crap.

When I run winamp, it starts drawing the main and playlist editor by the looks, and then BSOD. I don't even have to queue a song.

I have a ton of stuff, but I tried clean booting and still problems.

        [reply]
I don't have any plugins installed and yes I have tried 5.0.7 downloaded today.

Hmm, it's starting to sound more like a graphics driver issue

You could also post a HijackThis log so we can see a list of concurrently running processes and startup entries.

          Please also confirm:
Does the problem occur with both the Winamp Modern and Winamp classic skins?

Note: The default skin is Winamp Modern, but you can change this to classic by editing the "skin=" line in winamp.ini (in the Winamp dir) accordingly:

leave entry blank to load winamp with the classic base skin
          skin=

To reset back to Winamp Modern
          skin=Winamp Modern

Ok so I have the 66.93 Drivers already, Recently done.
Since changing the skin to classic winamp won't run but doesn't BSOD any more. I get application error, dde server windows winamp.exe instruction at "0x7c9111de" referenced memory at 0x79616c70 memory can't be read.

I have attached my hijack this log:

Hmm, that's a very 'busy' log. Are all those startup items really necessary?

Does the problem still occur if you disable MultiMon?

              Is nView running?

What is "Intel Application Accelerator" (ie. what does it do exactly)?

              __________________________________________________________________

              HJT Entries that need fixing

              WhenU Advertising spyware/adware:
              O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [VVSN] C:\Program Files\VVSN\VVSN.exe

Note, Symantec class this as a virus.
Make sure your AntiVirus and SpybotSD definitions are fully up-to-date, and run a full scan. You should also install & run Adaware

FlashGet is known to be WELL dodgy. I suggest you uninstall it :/

              Flashget entries:
              O2 - BHO: (no name) - {A5366673-E8CA-11D3-9CD9-0090271D075B} - (no file)

I also recommend that you use HJT to remove the following iffy ActiveX Controls (C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files):

O16 - DPF: {39B0684F-D7BF-4743-B050-FDC3F48F7E3B} (FilePlanet Download Control Class)

              O16 - DPF: {88D969C0-F192-11D4-A65F-0040963251E5} (XML DOM Document 4.0)
              O16 - DPF: {E06E2E99-0AA1-11D4-ABA6-0060082AA75C} (GpcContainer Class)

Some of these DPF entries are incomplete.
Is that the full HJT log, or did you leave parts of it out?
If it is full, then the Office Update and Trend Micro Housecall ActiveX Controls are both broken, and need fixing then reinstalling (if you intend to ever use them again)

Re: "O10 - Unknown files in Winsock LSP" entries...
More than likely, HJT needs updating to recognize Google Desktop Search as legit.
However, you should run LSPFix just to be sure.

Try another clean install, but this time uncheck support for "Sonic Burning/Ripping Support" (under Audio File Support section). It's possible that there's a conflict going on with Roxio and Nero and Sonic drivers !?

All that remains, once you've got your system cleaned up, is to check again for updated mobo/chipset drivers:

Good luck, and let us know how it goes...

                Nice Call Sir!

I Did the following and one of them helped.

Uninstalled Winamp, deleted the winamp folder. (previously attempted)

Removed using msconfig, all the startup programs.

Reinstalled winamp disabling sonic burn, and wow! it works!

I can even work in modern skin mode.

I'm having the same problem, suddenly. I tried uninstalling/deleting winamp folder/reinstalling, same thing.

I have tried older versions (from 0.x to 3.x) and those work. Things I've recently done:

                  - install rad video tools
                  - updated IDE, SATA and USB drivers
                  - removed 1 x 512 DDR400 ram stick (second one)

Everything else works fine, winamp always worked fine before. Also, I don't have much running at system start-up, just VNC and a bluetooth driver.

                  My system:

                  - Epox board with Via KT600 chipset
                  - AMD XP 2400+
                  - Windows XP PRO english with SP2 and latest updates
                  - XFX Geforce 6600GT
                  - 512 RAM DDR400
                  - Terratec DMX Xfire 1024 soundcard
                  - 2 x SATA seagate disks + 1 maxtor IDE
                  - LG DVD writer

The only thing I can think of that might be causing this is the latest drivers I installed, but everything else works fine, even 0-3 versions of winamp. Any clue ?

Well, the solution for networkn (the thread starter here) was to do a clean install of Winamp without Sonic Burning/Ripping Support (uncheck it in the installer options).

networkn also provided a HJT log, which is always useful to help us diagnose issues.

However, have you maybe installed the new Via Enhanced IDE Controller driver?

I've still got a sneaky feeling that it's a conflict with the new VIA Enhanced IDE Driver and the Sonic CD Burning/Ripping Engine, but I could be wrong...

That was exactly my problem! After disabling the Sonic Burning/Ripping Support, Winamp works fine.

My configuration: See the attached file!

And ... yes i have the enhanced VIA-IDE driver installed.

Thanks for the support! I hope this problem will be solved?
