explorer crashing after right clicking on .mp3 files

    explorer crashing after right clicking on .mp3 files

    ok I got the latest winamp but everytime I right click on a .mp3 file it makes explorer crash how can I fix that. It works fine with other formats such as flac, shn ect

    Can't reproduce with 5.091, WinXP, clean install

    What are your system specs? Make sure to pay attention to the HijackThis log section.

    Make sure you perform a clean install of 5.091 and test it before posting back here.

      Explorer crashes when you simply right-click on an MP3 file?

      This sounds like a system problem, not necessarily Winamp related.
      Confirm that you have a clean install of Winamp.
      Provide full system specs as outlined here. And, as again outlined in that same post, attach a HijackThis log to your reply, using the newest version (v1.99.1)...
      Instructions for attaching the HijackThis log to your post:

      Attach the log and don't post it directly into the thread, else it may break tables.

      Start hijackthis.exe, click "do a system scan and save a log file", change the extension from .log to .txt (ie. save it as hijackthis.txt, not hijackthis.log) and attach the log to your post via the "Post a Reply" button in your thread (or via "Post a New Topic" if starting a brand new thread for a new topic).

      Don't try to fix anything with HJT unless you're absolutely sure what it is!
      (ie. until an expert here tells you exactly what to fix after they've seen the log).
      Most of the entries in the log will be harmless or even essential/required.

          I hope everything I provided is what you said another thing I forgot to mention but shouldnt be a big thing is I get a show error report thing when this happens

                  Wow! What a mess!
                  Look at the following 3 links for some clues...
                  1. Windows Installer launches unexpectedly, for no obvious reason
                  2. Faulting Application Explorer.exe ntdll.dl
                  3. explorer.exe hangs/crashes
                  Insofar as the HJT log is concerned, I'm certain that DJ Egg will eventually be here to help out with that. He'll probably also be able to provide more info/help for all those Windows errors as well.

                      Apart from that, it's possible that there's some kind of conflict going on as to which program is the default mp3 handler (Winamp, iTunes, QuickTime, etc).

                      Go into the Preferences of each player and make sure that only the one you want to be default for mp3 actually is!

                      For Winamp, this would be via: Prefs (Ctrl+P) > File Types

                      Have we also had confirmation of a clean install of Winamp 5.091 yet? (5.09 was very buggy)

                      Please try without any 3rd-party plugins, for now.
