Why does my Winamp 5.1 not play audio on my *.MP4 (nero digital format) video files created by Nero Recode 2?
    Video is ok.
    Seeking bar not working too.
Before I added "MP4" in the list, the audio and seek bar was ok, but without video. (Really funny!)

    DirectShow Decoder current list: MPG;MPEG;M2V;AVI;ASF;WMV;DAT;VOB;MP4
The rest of the file types work just fine.
    DivXs, XviDs also ok.
MP4 Demuxer (in_mp4.dll) installed but... not configurable?

PS: I didn't expect Dsp/Effects to work with VOBs (...Great!)

Which MP4/AAC DirectShow Filter (audio) have you got installed?

    Try dicas mpegable maybe?

Thanx for reply but no solution yet.
      AVIcodec>filters>direct show>list:
      ...
      ...Nero digital audio dec.
      ...
...dicas mpeg4 audio dec. (after mpegable installation)
      ...
...and about 100s more filters but can't find something like "AAC audio".
GSpot lists only the Nero filter.
      Also tried the:
      MP4 Input Plugin (for Winamp2/5) 2.1 beta
"This plugin decodes .MP4 and .M4A files as well as AAC, PS AAC and the newer HE ACC profile included in Nero 6.0 and can be considered a correctly working replacement for in_mp4 included with Winamp 5" (...as they say)
Now the problem is yes-audio (full functioning seek, dsp), but no-video as mentioned in my topic above, before adding "MP4" in DS filters' list.
      Some more help if possible?

When you add an extension to in_dshow config, Winamp will then use whatever DirectShow filters are installed on the system to decode the video/audio content. In other words, it won't use any other input plugin such as rarewares/audiocoding in_mp4, so installing that plugin will have no effect whatsoever (apart from stealing mp4 association from in_dshow).

Maybe try the suggestions from here

        QUOTE

        Nero Digital Information Thread

In order to use other DirectShow based player with Nero Digital streams including chapters, subtitles and multiple audio streams, install the latest ffdshow (and enable h.264 and aac decoding in ffdshow) and Haali Media Splitter (MatroskaSplitter). For a proper subtitle support with ffdshow (ffdshow subs a bit buggy), install the latest VSFilters.

        /UNQUOTE

(you can find all the relevant links there... sorry, I was too lazy to edit them in)

Apart from all that, sorry, but I don't have Nero Recode or any sample videos, so I really aren't sure, heh.

When one of those mp4 videos are playing, what audio filter does Winamp say it's using (c/o right click entry > View File Info)?

          Dicas mpegable did the job!
Just had to get rid of the in_mp4.dll and now everything goes fine.

Except tiny "seeking bar" bug. (It crashes Winamp but only if you tease it a lot). But who wants to rush around the movie instead of sit back and enjoy it!

          Thanks a lot!

(I have to check this "doom9" thing... I need subtitles...)

            PS:
            Ffdshow didn't work for me.
After installation it took Winamp's life away.
            Winamp didn't start at all.

well.. i can tell you how i do it...
              put mp4 on in_dshow.dll

              directshow filters:
              ffdshow (for decoding mp4v)
              coreaac (for aac & aac+)
              videosoft h264 decoder (for h264)
haali media splitter (to demux the mp4, supports seeking)

i doubt you will ever get subtitles to work in winamp... at least not with the way in_dshow is at present

Weird. Did you install the latest ffdshow from here? (ie. not the old buggy one from sourceforge.net)

After installing Ffdshow (20051027 version from free-codecs site), when I try to ryn Winamp it gives me this error:
"Winamp.exe Error 0xc0000005 Application failed to initialize. Press OK to terminate the application". Or something like that, in Greek.
I uninstalled all "third" codecs (Divx, Xvid, 3ivx, Dicas) but still same problem.
Without Ffdshow everything seems fine. Maybe some configuration needed? Too many options, but...
All I need is a stable codec to be able to play mp4 (Nero digital recoded) files in Winamp. The ones above I tried so far didn't do that much.
                  -Win XP
-Winamp 5.111 (Same problem with prev versions)
-Ahead, Cyberlink and Pinnacle codecs installed (never had problem with them present)
                  -MP4 added in Dshow list
                  Any advice accepted.

open the mp4 in mplayer2, if it works in there, then i have no idea.. if it doesnt, then you are missing some directshow filters

Maybe (if ffdshow doesn't work in other players either) you're using a compile that requires an additional runtime dll (looking through the doom9 ffdshow thread there's some talk about MSVC compiles that need msvcr80.dll (to be put in windows\system)).

Or try another version, either the gcc compile currently at free-codecs or Celtic Druid's ICL compile (available here and here).

I remember getting that 'winamp failed to initialize properly' error after installing an older version of ffdshow, but thinking about it, it might have been because I checkmarked everything in the ffdshow installer options, but when I uninstalled it and installed the next version with just the default installation options, then Winamp worked ok after that. So maybe it wasn't the old version of ffdshow which caused the error, but something else in the installer options (ie. one of AviSynth Scripts Serving, VirtualDub, or DScaler). Try it by unchecking everything else so that only the ffsdhow DirectShow Filters are installed.

I am having a similar problem, I have ffdshow installed, and the in_mp4 plugin installed. I get audio when i play the .mp4 movie in WinAmp, but its not playing the actors voices...... All other sounds are there.... just not the actors voices. When i play the movie in Windows Media Player, its fine. It just bugs me that i cant get it to work in WinAmp.
