  • quicktime messed up my mp3 settings!

usually when i click on an mp3 link in internet explorer, a winamp associated box appears and asks me if i want to save it or open it with winamp. however, after updating to a new quicktime as well as the newest winamp, i have a problem. now when i click these links, the browser has to load a quicktime page and then play it in this goofy looking bar. how do i set winamp to work with this again?

    thanks

Windows Control Panel > QuickTime > Browser tab > MIME Settings button
    Uncheck "MP3 > MP3 Audio"

Then make sure MP3 is selected in Winamp > Prefs > File Types
(deselect & reselect it if needs be)

What's your Windows OS and IE browser version?
Can you provide a link to a site where you're having the problem?

i'm running on windows xp sp2. internet explorer version 6.0.2900.2180. and for an example link, (it happens to me with all mp3 links anyways):

you see, when i click on that, it has to load a quicktime page, like i mentioned earlier. it plays in a small grey bar against a white background.

Hmm... well, I could suggest that you uninstall QuickTime and install QT Alternative instead.

Sorry, but afaik, if you deselect MP3 in the QT Control Panel > MIME Settingss, then it should no longer use the browser plugin for mp3 links.

remove the quicktime browser extention, problem solved
quicktime alternative is generally preferred as well

and some friendly advice, it's a bad idea to browse the net with your OS shell. use firefox instead www.mozilla.org
