WinAmp 5.2 FULL OF BUGS!!

I have wasted 4 days with this Buggy version of Winamp.
IT WILL NOT PLAY NICE WITH WIN98SE!!!

Don't waste your time like I did.

Just wait untill they get it right.

And I am sure they will.

Just go back and look at the Forum.

There are less problems with XP, But big problems with Win98se.

Now if people with old versions of Winamp try to go back they encounter problems they NEVER had!!

I will dump using Winamp before I formatt.

I have be using Winpamp since it's first version.

This is the most problems I have ever seen.

Then tell me why Winamp 5.2 states it supports Win98!!??

Tell us the bugs you're encountering and we'll look into them. One Windows 98 bug involves the media library. When you resize the columns to where you don't have a horizontal scroll bar, a strange effect occurs - the top of what is shown in the media library repeatedly flashes and you can't scroll down all the way. I'm not getting this on XP Pro though. I was a Windows 98 user less than a month ago. Another bug, still present in XP, but minor, is that the equalizer settings are not equidistant (they have odd jumps). Two others not likely due to Winamp is that Winamp's clock is slightly slower (2 seconds on 5400), and that when running a fullscreen program (such as a game), the window positions aren't locked. These are about the only bugs I know of.

My second/old pc is a Win98SE machine.
I just installed Winamp 5.2 on it and it works like a charm.
No problems playing Audio CDs whatsover (ref)

However, I did uncheck the following in the installer options:

Winamp Library:
Shoutcast Wire | Online Media | Predixis MusicMagic | Portable Media Player support
(ie. I only kept Media Library checkmarked.)

Audio File Support:
Sonic Ripping/Burning Support

This was mainly because 1) there's no internet connection available on that machine, 2) I won't be connecting any Portable Media Players to that pc, and 3) I'm not sure how compatible with Win98SE the Sonic Burning/Ripping Engine is.

I kept everything else checkmarked, and everything works perfectly ok.
No crashes, no error messages, and it's superfast when using any classic skin
(admittedly a bit slower with a Modern skin, but it's only a 450MHz p3)


So, maybe your CD playback problems are related to the Sonic Engine?

Winamp > Prefs > Plugins > Input > CD plugin (in_cdda.dll) > config:
Uncheck "use sonic engine"

Winamp > Prefs > CD Ripping > Ripping tab:
Uncheck "read audio data from CDs using bundled sonic engine"

You can even totally disable the Sonic Engine by renaming PXSDKPLS.dll (Winamp root dir) to eg. PXSDKPLS.dll.off - or you can uninstall and reinstall without Sonic Engine (ie. uncheck it in the installer options).

Winamp will then use the native Win9x ASPI engine (Windows\System\wnaspi32.dll) for Digital Audio Extraction method when playing Audio CDs.... which it did perfectly on my old Win98SE machine.

They should have it check off when installing Win98se.

This seem's to have solve the CD Exiting Problem.

Another problem is CRASHING when starting at times.

I also like to use the plug-in DFX.
I will try next.

I've been doing this relentlessly for 6 years now, so it's nothing new really. There's always been situations like this going on whenever there's a new major *.0 release.

Now do you have any advice on DFX?
It seem's others are having problems with it crashing, and locking the computer on start up.
