  • logitech usb mic + karaoke + winamp

aiight, i know this topic has been discussed before, but in my searches i couldn't find any real resolution to people's problems. anyway, here's mine--i am using the logitech usb mic (for the PS2--i use it with Karaoke Revolution) with the CDG Plug-In by Yannick Heneault...everything plays fine, but i can't hear my voice when winamp is playing an MP3 with a corresponding CDG file.

if i go under my sound properties (double-click the speaker in the bottom right), my mic is available and NOT muted. if i then go under PROPERTIES, select the radio button next to recording, and set the Mixer Device to the logitech mic, the only option i get in the box below CAPTURE...i can't select "stereo mix" as others have suggested.

can anyone else help? would it be better for me to add in my SB Live Audigy card instead of using the onboard sound card--which is "Vinyl AC'97 Audio"?

    thanks...sturmie

Well, the first thing I should ask is if the USB mic is listed under device manager, if it's not you're out of luck as there isn't any windows drivers for it.

Also double check that you're adjusting the volume for your USB mic, and not the on board sound cards mic in. You can do this in the volume control by going to options>properties and making sure your USB mic is checked off in the list.

As the undisputed karaoke king of winamp, here's my advice...

    Disable your onboard soundcard.
    Use the SBlive
Get a real mic, Shure SM58 is an awesome mic and is reasonably priced.

thanks for the reply...yes, the logitech does show up in device mgr and it DOES test fine when doing the Windows audio hardware tests--ie, i can hear my voice through the mic and adjust the levels.

i have no problem getting a new (non-USB) mic, but that shure one is ~$100 or so...any recommendations for something in the $30-40 range?

aiight...the Audigy card is in...same problem(s)...guess my question would be, has ANYONE gotten Winamp + Karaoke + Logitech USB mic to work? the mis is installed properly AND working, just not in conjunction with winamp.

        thanks.

The mis must be ugly then, cause winamp only likes hot chicks. j/k

Ok here's another suggestion. Keep the audio hardware test open while running winamp. Still though, it's a USB mic (i'm trying to hint to you that they suck) Froogle lists a sm58 mic for $57 bucks. This is considered the industry standard in karaoke. If it's still too rich for your blood I think Best Buy sells Sony Mics that are pretty decent for $20 or so.

gotcha...i'll look to upgrade to a non-usb mic then.

that Shure mic for $57 from froogle (aka Broadcaststore.com) is showing for $125 instead on the merchant's site...how are teh ATR mics? i saw Circuit City has the ATR30 for ~$50.

            thanks again.

Speaking of mics. I travel with a notebook MP3+G WinAmp system and want to add VERY PORTABLE mics and a mixer. Most places I go (overseas), I can hook into a sound system and a TV. Anybody know of a quality (under $150) mixer to have PC-audio out and two or three mics? The primary driver for me is SIZE...like the size of a couple of paperback books stacked? Nady has one, but it's not quite what I want. Or did I mention, world-power too? 100-240V or batteries.
