  • .WAV files in the "open files" dialogue

I'm using 5.22 Pro. .WAV files no longer show up in the open files dialogue unless I select "all files". I have checked Winamp's file types in preferences, and I have selected all available extensions, including WAV of course. I've checked the extension in Explorer registered file types, and .WAV is registered as a "Winamp media file". I've tried re-installing, and nothing changes. If I select a .WAV file in Explorer, it comes up in Winamp, so it would seem to be the default player. What did I miss?

    Thanks

Try selecting 'Sound Files' which correspond to WAV files, instead of 'All files' in the Open dialog. See if it works.

      Selecting WAV files in Winamp5.22

Thanks for responding, and yes selecting "Sound files" does work, but my point is that WAV files should show up under "All supported types", since it's a registered file type, both within Winamp and Explorer. I shouldn't have to be messing about with the file type; it should simply show up along with MPC MP3 AAC ETC. Does anyone know why it doesn't? I'm running Windows2000 by the way. A similar thing happened to me with .OGG files a few years back. Strangely enough, when I un-installed a Real plug in for Winamp my Vorbis files were again displayed normally under "all supported types". I haven't installed any third party plug ins recently, so it's not the problem this time.

          The WAV file problem solved

Thanks very much for that; it worked! I should perhaps explain that I'm a screen reader user. I don't like to do too much special pleading but, if you use speech or Braille output, it's a more linear process than it is for you sighted guys. That means you have to go through everything you don't want until you find what you do want. That makes me less good at FAQs, Trouble Shooters ETC. That doesn't mean I shouldn't use them of course, but the patience wears a bit thin in the heat of the moment. I crave your indulgence.
