  • organizing tracks to play

Is there a setting in local media by which I can set up an album to play but not to start until I click or double click on the first track, or, if I wish, some other track? Once I have started that album, can I get ready another album but not have it start until I want and have it start at the track I want?

    Thanks.

would enqueue work rather than play

start with a cleared playlist, enqueue the album you want, and then play it by double clicking on the track you want...

then to play another album, on the last song you are playing from the first album, clear the playlist, the current song will continue playing, then enqueue the next album and repeat the process for as many as you want...

If you have Media added to the library & also appropriately tagged, then they would appear in Local media and Audio in the Media Library under respective headings. Now to enqueue albums, under Album view in Audio, select the album & then Shift+Enter. To enqueue several albums at a time (will get ordered one after another), hold down Ctrl while clicking several albums, then Shift+Enter. Clearing the playlist is not necessary all the time. If you directly play a track/album insted of enqueueing, it will erase the playlist & replace it.

O.K., I said thanks for the replies, but I really did not get any replies that get to the root of my question:

In RealPlayer and WMP, the UI allows me to display one artist or one album (acts as a folder) at a time, and display the actual files for that artist or album without them starting to play. I have already configured so that any file or bookmark will enqueue; but I can not find a setting to let me see the files the way I do in the other players.

In "Audio", I see artists in the left but just albums in the right pane. And the only way I can see the individual files is in "Local Media", where I see all files. For me that is 1991 files, a lot to go through to find what I want.

I want to be able to see Artist, Album, etc on the left, and then the individual files on the right.

Am I missing some setting, or is this just impossible in Winamp?

          Thanks.

Just below the artist and album panes there should be a horizontal line. Try clicking it and drag it upwards.

              organizing

Hey- Thanks a lot. Now at least I know what to look for. I have been trying to get the Window for about twenty minutes, and can not seem to grab it. I probably got rid of it myself, I seem to remember it being there.

Could I get it back by re-installing, or will Winamp remember my settings? I absolutely do not mind re-installing.

              Thanks again.

                Now that's weird...
Maybe you need to increase the size of the Media Library first (to allow for the extra pane to fit in). When you hover that horizontal line, the mouse cursor changes to a two-way arrow (screenshot).

If no luck, you can reset all Media Library settings by deleting gen_ml.ini and the ml folder while Winamp is closed.
These are stored either in "C:\Program Files\Winamp\plugins" or, if you chose to keep separate settings for each user, here:
                C:\Documents and Settings\<yourusername>\Application Data\Winamp\plugins

If you're going for a re-install, follow the clean install procedure, or else settings will indeed be remembered.

You are the man!! (0r woman)

I tried the option of removing gen-ml.ini and the ml folder and it worked like a charm.

                  Thank you so much.

The whole thing was my own fault and I am grateful for your assistance.
