  • 5.34 Not Displaying Track Length?

So yeah, just downloaded 5.34 last night, installed it properly, and what have you. And now on probably a hundred tracks or so within the media library, the length of the track does not display. In some cases, it's an entire album (The Crane Wife, Live At Leeds) in others, it's just a handful of tracks from an album (Beatles Love). And then there's one lone Beatles track that doesn't display the artist title at all.

I've reinstalled a few times, uninstalled, etc and so forth, and still the same tracks have the same problems. No idea why. It's mostly just really damn annoying. All I know is that the previous version was fine, and now on 5.34 this is screwy.

    What file format are they?
mp3, wma, ogg, wav, m4a, flac, other?

Have you installed any 3rd-party plugins?

Does the length show if you right-click the ml entry and select 'read metadata on selected items'?

Can you upload a sample file to eg. sendspace.com or mediafire.com and post the download link here?
(we'll need a sample file if we're going to be able to reproduce the problem, because as it stands, we can't).

They're all mp3s. No 3rd party plugins, as it's off a fresh install. And now, upon testing it, reading the metadata doesn't seem to do a single thing. It flashes a quick message (Progress: Reading metadata X out of Y) after yet another un/reinstall. Then nothing. Earlier, I looked, and it opened fine, but I don't recall as to whether or not it displayed the track data correctly.

I'm uploading a track right now.

Basically, it's a problem caused by embedded cover art in the id3v2 tag

            Header found at: 32726 bytes
which is beyond the bounds of where winamp/in_mp3 checks.

For now, you could remove the coverart from the id3v2 tag (with eg. wmp)
and just store eg. cover.jpg in the containing folder instead...
(or embed smaller images instead of 30kb ones, heh)

Note that the bug is fixed for the sooncoming Winamp 5.35.

Oh, wow. Never would have thought to check that out. Yeah, I use iTunes to generally organize my music (pretty much just for the portable sucker) and use that to imbed the artwork because I'm compulsive like that, haha. Makes sense.

Thanks a bunch, I appreciate it.

i'm also having this problem, the weird thing is that up until a few days ago the tracks had their length and it wasn't until yesterday that they disappeared.

might've had something to do with it, but a few days ago also for some reason my playlists disappeared from my media library but i recovered them from the plugins/ML folder. the track lengths were shown when i recovered them, but again, yesterday they just randomly disappeared.

so what changed in winamp that caused this to be a problem? ive never had this problem until now and ive been using winamp for... 6+ years?

some of the mp3s i have that didnt display the album art, i tried removing the album art and the track info would display. some of them were fixed after re-adding (continued to show track length) and some reverted to not displaying length after readding the art. i use mediamonkey to manage all the album art for my mp3s
