  • WinAmp not treating shortcuts right

Ive installed a couple of plugins tonight, which play certain kinds of files (GYM and SPC I think). However now, when I press L to open a file and go to double click a shortcut, WinAmp opens the shortcut as a file and tries to play it. How do I get it to go back to opening shortcuts normally instead of trying to play them? This has happened before and only happens when I install new file type plugins!

    Thanks a lot.

Sounds like one of the third-party plugins is causing the issue with Winamp. Remove the plugins you installed until the issue resolves it's self. The report the bug to the plugin author of the last one you removed.

One plugin is probably seeing a .LNK file as a valid file type.

If you are sure it not one of the third party plug-ins erroneously causing .LNK to be valid file type, try DJ Egg's suggestion here. Although the issue is different, I think it may be indirectly causing your issue.

Make sure you have the latest Winamp. The currently supported version as of this reply is 5.35. I can't specifically remember what it was, there was a shortcut issue prior to version 5.33.

Otherwise, third party plug-ins are the most likely cause of the issue.

Maybe if you can provide system & Winamp specs, one of us may find something else. However, I think the end result will be third party plug-in releated.

Well I do think its the "too many file associations in Windows XP" bug, but even though Ive deselected loads, its still not working.

You may have already tried this. Have you tried deselected additional rarer file formats?

Other than what has already been discussed, I am out of ideas.
